Hello.

Installed new Windows 10 Update; Creators Edition. No problem there. Found that I had no free storage left in Google Drive. Deleted a lot of files etc. and emptied Trash. Deleted so much that I found I was only using 1GB of the allowed 15 GB. It was like starting again. I altered the Drive settings to only sync my Documents. Everything updated and by clicking the icon in the task bar I was able to view the progress.

Returned to my laptop after a few hours of shutdown to find there was now no icon in task bar (nor in hidden icons); in fact there was no Google Drive anywhere, only an empty folder, which I deleted. I can access the Drive via the Google search page, and everything that I had synced is there to view, although it will not sync new additions to documents. I have tried this with a Test page.

I have uninstalled whatever was left behind of Google Drive and have attempted to download afresh many, many times. It downloads every time, but will not install. The installation window appears with faint rolling chevrons but does not go as far as the green progression bar. After a few seconds it states that there was a successful install. There was no install. I have checked everywhere. Any idea as to what to do? Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to answer SheungWan. Yes, I have access elsewhere, but that is only to already synced files. It still will not sync new files nor have I an icon in task bar.  Regards.

I must admit I don't sync anything and just access Drive after logging in to my Gmail account. Since everything in the cloud no need to download anything.

Are you downloading and running the latest iteration of the drive/sync software?

per Wikipedia:

In October 2016, Google announced that, going forward, it will drop support for versions of the computer software older than 1 year.

In June 2017, Google announced that a new app called Backup and Sync would replace the existing separate Google Drive and Google Photos desktop apps, creating one unified app on desktop platforms. Originally intended for release on June 28, its release was delayed until July 12.

In September 2017, Google announced that it will discontinue the Google Drive desktop app in March 2018 and end support in December 2017

Thanks RichCor. Yes, it is the latest edition. Just read an article that other people who had installed the Fall Creators edition of Windows were experiencing disappearing icons. My issue is therefore probably not an isolated case.

I think it is a google drive related problem and not related to 1709 issues. When you say you have looked everywhere, and the installer has been telling you it has been successfully installed, try navigating to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Drive on your computer assuming you didn't change the default install path. Notice the Program Files (x86) and not Program Files.

If you have these folders, double click on googledrivesync and that should open googledrive for you. Once you login it should start syncing. Once that has opened, right click on the google icon on your taskbar and select Pin to Taskbar.

Try that first.

Chrisinth, you have the knowledge! The files were in Program Files (x86), and yes, by clicking on them the icon reappeared on the task bar and Drive started to sync. Much appreciated.
