Every time I boot up, the process halts and I have to press F1.
This is the display -

UEFI defaults have been loaded
F2 or DEL to run set up
F1 to continue

This started after cleaning the dust from my PC.
Any hints would be appreciated before I go down the google rabbit hole.

Hopefully the links below may be of some help you .

The mainboard was a ASRock Q1900B-ITX, and I only bought the energy-efficient mini PC 1.5 years ago.

The BIOS still had the correct time and date, and after pressing F1 to continue the machine worked normally - so I thought it was a one-time glitch. But when shutting the machine down, unplugging and replugging it from electricity I saw the same error message again.

Replacing the CR2032 BIOS battery made the error go away.

The voltage the battery gave was probably too low to keep all of the data, so during bootup the BIOS probably noticed that they were corrupted and reset its internal state.

Thanks

The battery would be a good place for me to start.

Even without being up-to-date about modern BIOS this would be my first proposal.

Replace the battery, then try to boot the machine. If the same message pops up, please check your BIOS settings. (By pressing F1)

Go to Boot Settings Configuration and see if the message "Wait for F 1 if Error" is enabled. If it is, click enter, disable it, enter and restart by saving this configuration.

That should do the trick, please report back.

When I rummaged and found a new CR2032 BIOS battery in my drawer this morning I knew I'd be lucky !

Changed it out & booted up... but got the same old message and pressed F1 to complete the boot.

I  then reset the internet clock and rebooted, this time  it went straight to the win desktop.

Switched off and repeated to make sure .....and it's all good.

delphioricle/ khunbenq/ jenny2017 great tips & thanks for taking the time.
