Thank you for the updated figures, although my point was not the exact numbers. Now can you ask the same question for China or the EU which imports an almost similar amount? Or are stupid questions only reserved for Africans?

Every country buys something from another. Nigeria buys surplus Rice from Thailand. Thailand needs this revenue. Thai rice farmers, majority of whom are poor, have no time for questions like yours.

Some posters here are suggesting that Thailand comes up with some retaliatory measures against certain countries because of the criminal activities of some of its citizens. In an interdependent world, this has repercussions and the Thai Government (unlike some of these ignorant posters) is well aware of them. I am all for criminals of all colours being deported but the focus on the black ones and make it an almost weekly story suggests that something else is going on, especially since the results of these crackdowns are not really being felt.

They wouldn't be there unless a set of very powerful and untouchable Thais say it's OK and there was a lot of profit in it for them. These street level thugs and hookers should be cannon fodder for the cops but nothing is done other than a few token arrest sometimes.....go figure why. Prostitution and drug dealing are amongst pretty much the most profitable businesses there are. I too am surprised how the obviously non-tourist Africans all seem to be able to arrive and disperse themselves at will without proper passports or visas and nonchalantly wind away their days as pushers or whores in plain view of all. It's like this because that's how some pretty vile locals want it that are in positions of serious influence. When it no longer suits them then it will be cleared and the problem will be curtailed.

 

Secondly, the Thais let them in, so no-one to blame but themselves. This issue is decided way above the pay grade of the cop complaining in the news article.
