The hidden features on airplanes you never knew existed

Few people know that there is a secret button on each aisle seat that allows you to raise the armrest so that it is flush to the side of the seat.

To find the button, feel under the armrest where it is located close to the hinge.

Can somebody who has used this button confirm how it works?  From the context, I suspect it does not raise the armrest but lower it. My next flight will be a SWISS flight in January and if I plan to try it out then.

a secret button...

hmmm - what if my seat number is O07 ?

and get ejected

Presumably this is what they are referring to:

It does exist but, as far as I know, not on all types of economy seat. And it does actually work by raising the armrest so that it is vertical and parallel with the back of the seat, as described.

My personal preference: J class lie-flat seats.

I see, raising it that way, folding it up on a hinge. I remember this being possible without having to press a button, but that was decades ago when once the other three seatd in the middle section of my row were empty and I could lie and sleep fully stretched out, with three seat belts holding me in place.

I now also remember about being surprised on a more recent flight that the armrest could not be folded up. So that's where the secret button, if it is there, comes in.
