Meteor shower visible over all parts of Thailand Friday night: NARIT

BANGKOK, 14 November 2017 (NNT) – A Leonid meteor shower will be visible in a clear night sky over all parts of Thailand on 17 November 2017.

National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) Director Saran Poshyachinda said the Leonid meteor shower will be visible over the sky in all parts of the country in the night between 17-18 December 2017 starting from midnight until dawn on 18 December.

The meteor shower will appear at the horizon approximately at 1.00 a.m. of 18 November 2017, and will be most visible from 2.00 a.m. until early morning over the northeastern sky near the Leo constellation which is the center of the shower.

Such natural phenomenon will happen on the moonless night with 10-15 meteors per hour. Leonid meteor shower is considered the brightest meteor shower as the object moves pass the earth's atmosphere at the rate of 71 kilometers per second.

He suggested that one lay down to observe the meteor shower in a completely dark, open place as the center of the meteor shower will be right on top of the head.

The NARIT chief added Leonids occurred when the meteoroids from 55P/Tempel-Tuttle comet veered off its gravitational path and entered the earth's orbit, causing friction and ignition of the meteoroids.

Clearly a man on top of his profession. Not.

Will people be able to take a selfie with the Leo constellation in the background and upload to social media or will they get banged up?
