Hi, Samui members.

Have heard places like Red Fox Bar, Rising Sun, etc, are/were forced to vacate. What's the story in the villlage?

I gather the leases where up and the landlord wants to redevelop. The option of a new lease was offered at much higher rates but not taken up. They were falling down anyway.

The Red fox has only relocated in the last six months to a unit on the ring road, so am not sure if that is shutting down. With regards to the rising sun, it is being knocked down and replaced with yet more shop units!!! Also Billabong is closing down as well, but they are relocating to a new site next to Tropicana, they will be building a 2 storey bar, with seven more bars behind. Allot of the bars will be closing in the coming years.

Some of the bigger landlords in Lamai only think about short term profits - Hence the building of endless shophouses and supermarkets - I cannot see that Lamai will change very much very quickly - just more of the same . Chaweng seems to have gone in totally the other direction and , I think , too over developed .

Hmmm, that's too bad, Churchill. There are some good resorts in the village. I thought more good restaurants and shall I say more respectable bars would be a welcome addition. Tourists surely do not need more supermarkets, do they? And there's nowhere to park for local shoppers... :o
