Third Navy Region leads inspection of seafood factories in Phuket

BANGKOK, 17 November 2017 (NNT) – Navy officers of the Third Navy Region inspected a few seafood factories in Phuket in search of illegal workers employment and found no signs of irregularities.

Third Navy Region commander Vice Admiral Surapon Kuptapan led the inspection of three frozen seafood factories in Phuket to check for possible irregularities involving the operating process and employment of workers. However, no signs of wrongdoings were found during the inspection.

The Navy-led inspectors included officials of the provincial fisheries office, the provincial labor protection and welfare office, the provincial industrial office, the local immigration office, local police and local customs office, among others.

The Third Navy Region chief said the inspection was part of the government effort to solve illegal fishing to ensure the legitimacy of the seafood factories and the supply of their seafood products in compliance with the European Union regulations.
