Tourism Director Ornwara Korapin reminds everyone to be “perfect hosts” and not exploit sailors from foreign navies in Pattaya this week for the international fleet show.

PATTAYA:-- Pattaya officials pleaded with city taxi drivers and tourism companies to be “perfect hosts” and not exploit sailors from foreign navies in Pattaya this week for the international fleet show.

Tourism Director Ornwara Korapin met Nov. 10 with representatives Pattaya municipal police, the Chonburi Provincial Tourism and Sports Department, Pattaya Baht Bus Cooperative, taxi drivers, Chonburi Tourist Attraction Association, and Thai Hotels Association Eastern Region to finalize plans for the Nov. 13-22 review.

Ornwara urged taxi drivers not to overcharge the foreign visitors and provide friendly service. She said the Pattaya Contact Center will move immediately against tourism operators gouging the visitors on what is likely their first trip to Pattaya.

The meeting also set drop-off and pick-up point for sailors from foreign navies and implored the baht bus drivers not to double park or park in restricted areas.

She said volunteers and interpreters will be on standby to assist the visitors, with YouTripper Co. providing information about tourist attractions to the guests.

After this week , carry on as normal then? Do these people ever engage a brain before making such comments?

But they were "urged" so they will comply, no doubt.

Surely the Pattaya taxi drivers are not going to be stupid enough to rip off (think of a number) matelots on a night out......

I think they might just bite off more than they can chew!!!!!

Yes, that used to be an ill advised action, and I do not suppose it has changed much. :post-4641-1156694572:

people get overcharged all the time without knowing it... this would be no different.

taxi says i take you 300 baht... sailor says sure without even giving it a second thought. (metered the fair would probably be less then 100 baht) sailor doesn't know and some might even care... 300 baht is about 10 bucks in NY that would be an absolute bargain.

the best way to fix taxi from price gouging is to post signs everywhere...

If the taxi driver is driving you this distance this is what you should expect to pay.

Fee may vary based on amount of traffic

Please take picture of license plate and taxi identification if asked to pay more than expected sum and call this #

I remember when the US fleets used to come to town with big numbers in the years before all the jihadi <deleted> & all the old timers would get out of town for those few days moaning as the price of just about everything went up from girls to bahtbuses
