I live in Australia with my Thai wife and children. My wife has a 14 year old daughter that we would like to bring over for a holiday and to see if she would like to live here.

My wife is returning to Ayutthea at the beginning of February to check that original birth certificate is correct and to apply for a passport. We want to lodge a tourist visa application. I am expecting that it will be refused because they do not believe that she will want to return to Thailand. She currently lives with her grandparents. Her grandparents also look after my wifes brothers 2 children since his death from cancer 3 years ago.

It is not possible for our relatives in Thailand to complete paperwork or deal with bureaucrats. We had trouble dealing through the Thai staff at the Australian Embassy when my wife was applying for a visa to join me 9 years ago. Many times she was reduced to tears and I spent a lot of time calling the embassy to try and clear problems.

I know that there is a new lodgement proces in hand now, but once again the staff are Thai. I speak no Thai, I will need to complete any English sections on forms. I need to find a trustworthy reliable person in Bangkok to assist her.

The words trustworthy and agent dont usually go together. Cant you download the form from the Australian Embassy in Bangkok and complete it, do all the sponsorship letters and proof and let your wife carry it to Thailand and submit it herself? I would think a 14 year old with relatives in Oz should stand a good chance, surely she's still at school and she'll be coming in school holidays. However if she is only visiting this time dont say that she wants to see if she wants to live in Oz in this application. Edited by Mahout Angrit

You shouldn't have any trouble in obtaining a tourist visa for a 14 year old.

Returning to Thailand in order to attend school should be enough reason for the authorities to grant the visa. It's not likely that a 14 year old is going to run off and obtain work whilst in Australia.

Obviously both yourself and your wife will need to give assurances that she will be put on the plane to Thailand upon visa expiration.

You can also explain in your covering letter that this visit will be 1. to tour Australia and 2. to evaluate the possibility of a permanent migration at a later date.

I don't think you need the services of an agent for this application but that is a matter for yourselves.

I did all the paperwork in Adelaide to bring my Stepson over here. I filled all the paper work and sent to LOS and they did the signing over there.

Thank you all for your input. I have already downloaded the forms to complete. Some one always seems to think of something else that they need. My wife will need to get the bus from Ang Thong into Bangkok to lodge the application. I want to make it aseasy as possible and cover all bases.

you can pay for the visa in Oz at the nearest DIMA office, sometimes they can actually be helpfull too.

They charge more if you pay in Australia. I will have to think about it. Are you in Thailand or South Australia?

G,day,

I dont know if things have changed much .?

But my *now * wife. Fiance then, applied for a tourist visa during Jan. last year.

We downloaded the form 48. filled it out then went to the Visa Application Centre. Presented all of the paper work.

And was told that we needed to apply on a ***48R THA*** form. The questions are written in Thai but you must answer everything in english.

Hope this helps as it would be a big inconveniance to down load the 48 form, get your wife to take it all the way to Bangkok and be told to re do the application on another form.

Anyway, We wish you good luck with your daughters application,

cheers,

lesdunbar

ps. My then fiance was was granted a 12 month multi entry visa, by the way.

You will need the 48R form...which has details about funds provider on it. They prefer applications in English where possible.

As she is a minor, you will need a letter from the father to say the child can leave the country, in the case of the father not being around you will need a letter from the court or your local Amphur office giving your wife sole custody rights. you will need to provide a translation of this letter. Make copies of the Thai and English ones for use at Immigration at the airport. All Thai documents will need translating by an official translator.

The application should be made at the VFS office in the CC tower building near Surasat BTS station. The staff there speak good English.

You will also need to show that you can support her financially, Yeah I know you have a family already but the Embassy dont know that and better safe than sorry.

You can either d/l from the net or ask Immi here to post an application to you...fill out as much as you can, Her name in English is req'd and it needs to be the same as on her passport...get her to complete the form....She can do that at the VFS office by using a blank Thai Form as a guide.

Make a Stat Dec or a letter outlining that you intend her to come for a holiday only and that yo will ensure that she abides by the conditions of her visa and that you will support her in all ways while she is here.

Cheers
