Jungthing, calm down., you've been in Thailand long enough to know that laws are flexible for Thais with money and foreigners that come from countries with clout if the crime is not serious.. it's a story on Thai Visa today, it's gone tomorrow.

I bet it's already yesterday's news in the Thai media.

A couple of weeks in the slammer at the most, though I'd give em 6 months.

Don't lecture me. It's obnoxious and condescending. I don't know what's going to happen to them and you don't either.

What a bizarre post.

These men are married to each other.

How could they not share their sexual orientation?

Their butt stunt was their butt stunt. It didn't have a sexual orientation. Any two people, males or otherwise, could have done so (and also should NOT have done so).

Aha, I see you are "seriously" suggesting they be tortured to DEATH. Your suggestion is massively more disgusting and offensive than what they did. SICK!

These men are married to each other, so tell me something I dont know

How could they not share their sexual orientation, Pardon exactly what page are you on

The butt stunt as you put it was nothing other than their normal practice of producing a product to put on the internet, advertising their sexual orientation

How do you think they had their collars felt, maybe because they up loaded the sexual orientated material while they were still in Thailand, for the delectation of their thousands of followers

This proves their actions were without a doubt sexually orchestrated

Have you actually bothered to read any of this thread, or are you in total denial

I am downcast to hear you dont find this situation funny anymore, or was the Iron MAIDEN reference a little to subtle for you

I could not have made it more obvious, although I have tried now, get the picture now do we

If you are not sure what a MAIDEN is, its a cricket term, thats used after six dot balls, not to be confused with the term, To bowl a maiden over

Have a nice day

Maybe keep up with the news.

They're in detention and facing the possibility of two very serious charges (computer related and religious related) that each carry the possibility of YEARS in prison. Not so FUNNY, huh?

Well not for them thats for sure

I wont worry too much on their behalf because they will be doing enough of that themselves

I think YEARS in prison wont come to pass, but I do think the Thais are handling this well

Got um locked up in the chokie, plenty of stress, plus a large bill to follow unless they can top Icarus

There it is again. Toxic homophobia. Must be fun to think you're morally superior. Emphasis on think. You most definitely aren't.

How did you know I was talking about you?  Perhaps, because it describes you to a T (cell, or lack thereof).

They will be prime candidates to become a part of California's Sex Offender Registry.  Seen people charged with felonies for urinating in public....except it was considered indecent exposure...most definitely a sex crime.

I think they'll most likely be released pretty soon, under some sort of special circumstances. So far the tide of public opinion has been to condemn what they did as stupid and offensive, and a few days in chokey to scare the bejeezus out of them, along with a fine and perhaps a ban on reentry seems appropriate.

Beyond that, the pendulum is likely to swing the other way, with an increasing amount of unwelcome global attention on the disproportionate sentencing and the appalling human rights conditions in the country, as well as news articles listing the number of minor offences that unwitting tourists could get locked up for here. It's a slew of bad publicity Thailand could happily do without, so I think at some point they'll try and find a way to make the problem go away in a way that makes them look magnanimous.

Well, your prediction is on record. Personally, I have no prediction. I do hope they can be let out of Thailand with just the fine and perhaps a ban as happened in a similar case of nude sisters in Cambodia.

I was responding to a toxic anti-gay rant, that's all.

I don't relate myself to your vile hatred.

I don't think most U.S. states would see exposing buttocks for a photo stunt as a sex crime. But you never know. I had a friend who ended up in prison for public urination in California.

You can see their butt stunt as advertising their sexual orientation but I think that comment is kind of silly. They are an exceptionally very, very OUT gay married couple. Anyone can see they're gay a mile away. They don't need to advertise with theme shoots on instagram. If they were looking for hookups via internet, they could use the various gay hookup sites available globally. I think the butt tourism was their attempt to have some fun with an instagram project. It wasn't that bad an idea in theory, but in practice in foreign countries with very different cultures, it obviously turned out to be not worth it.

They obviously did upload the butt shots for their instagram butt tourism theme project. I don't consider those sorts of photos as pornography. Perhaps the Thai authorities do.  Pornography is sometimes hard to define but you know it when you see it and you know it when you don't see it.

The Iron Maiden thing, I suppose you are saying now that you didn't mean the medieval torture device? If you weren't suggesting that they be tortured and murdered, my apologies over any misunderstanding. I know nothing of cricket. I'm sure those butt photo guys know nothing of cricket either.

Jail time is inappropriate. Most normal people will agree.  Personally, I don't have anything good to say about the pair- perhaps reflect upon the phrase 'time and place'.

Exactly. As someone else said, they are a pair of assclowns (literally based on their instagram project). But PRISON for that?

Not a prediction as such, though I think it'd be the right thing to do. So far, Thailand has enjoyed the moral high ground in this story, but beyond a certain point the harsh punishment is likely to backfire.

To add, another member mentioned of possible harsh consequences back home even if they can leave Thailand soon. Their story is all over the press in the U.S. now. Certainly in their home town San Diego it is big news. Unintended consequences with all that for sure.

Is he really?:stoner:

That doesn't sound correct.

They live in San Diego.

West Point is in New York.

This article is quite good. It shows that people are condemning their mistake and insensitivity to the culture here, but also want to see them make it safely home. In other words -- REASONABLE.

If this is true then it will go down in history with all the other "Major" military screw ups.

Cricket is not the only thing you dont know much about it would seem

If I was going for a medieval whacking it would be Hung Drawn and quartered, the Iron Maiden thing seemed a good idea at the time just like their behaviour

As far as the advertising goes, some people just cant get enough publicity

I have got my fingers crossed for their early release, when hopefully they will have become suitable educated as to their future behaviour

The pendulum has already swung. Thailand is the butt of jokes throughout the western world as it is. Thailand is a huge joke. However; these bombastic, incorrigible twerps that make up laws/rules to suit themselves and their friends are no more representative of Thai people than fat boy is of the poor, starving Nth Koreans.

To the people of Thailand I say; do not despair, you are not alone. The day will come when all people will rise up against greed and tyranny. One day the world will become a democratic place free from religion and indoctrination. Then Thai people you can throw off your shackles and live as nature intended.
