Heavy overnight rain left roads in Surat Thani on Thursday morning impassable in some places and treacherous to use in others.

Floodwater levels were between 50 and 70 centimetres, inundating roads around the provincial seat, including Surat-Punpin and Surat-Nasan roads.

The Tapee River was also rising as water continues to be released from the Ratchaprabha Dam.

Local authorities reported that 24 villages in four districts have been hit by flooding.

Worst for a few years.  But today most of the flooding has eased.  Flooding in Meuang Surat can't be compared to what happens in other areas.  It was a heck of a downpour from Wednesday evening through to Thursday afternoon.  And, yes, that picture is entirely accurate- the main town roads tuned in to streams.
