Similar places like Chiang mai for visa/visits

Featured Replies

Hi, looking for easiest (contained, walkable, safe'ish to explore) places to visit for a few months and gain a setv. Flights through AirAsia will be used, so closest isn't necessarily the goal but rather smaller, walkable places that offer reasonable COL for around 1k USD.

I was first considering georgetown Penang because it seems to be a reasonable and fairly easy place to navigate and get around but the shortage of (from what I hear) short term renting might be an issue but it seemed ideal with the hassle free 90 days entry visa.

I'm trying to research places that won't be overwhelming and will be relatively easy to vacation for a few months but I'd like a few places to research as options. Places similar to the ease of Chiang mai (I feel like I've mostly memorized the city from studying the map because its pretty small and walkable ). Pasay city was another place I was considering.

Any suggestions for research would be awesome or just feedback from solo travelers and how comfortable you felt.

Thanks, guys.

Pasay City in Metro Manila?

Probably the worst (poorest/dirtiest) place in the world, the only good thing I can say about it is the Victory Line bus station where you can get the bus to Olongapo, then Baloy Long Beach in Barretto which is really nice.

Kuala Lumpar is an easy destination (90 days on entry), and I hear Jakata is convenient.

My last jump was Chaksa in China (direct flights from CM, for around 5,000bht return), plenty of decent accommodation for 500bht/night but the language problems (written and spoken) are tremendous, never felt culture shock like it previously, and I've travelled a lot.

Victory Liner!  Whoo Hoo.  Took a non-aircon bus along with goats and chickens to Olongapo.  Those were the days!  Back when Imelda was still going strong with her 2000 pairs of chose.
