Thai media has reported a huge rise in fees collected at two southern marine national parks since honest officials took over.

But one requested his own transfer citing "health concerns" while another says is reportedly under threat of attack from those who have lost out.

In the national park that handles the Koh Phi Phi island area annual fees rose from 24 million baht to 560 million when Sarayuth Tanthian took over.

But following his success on behalf of the state in turning around corrupt practices he personally requested a transfer to Phangnga on health grounds, reported Manager.

Now the head of the Similan national park region finds himself in a similar situation.

Fees collected there and handed over to state coffers were as low as 23 million baht per annum in 2013.

Since Ruamsin Manajongprasert took over in June of 2016 the fees have jumped markedly to 308 million for the last year.

This represents a 120 million baht increase on the 2016 figure.

Ruamsin has been praised for rooting out corruption that was based on bent officials and others skimming off fees based on issuing less tickets than the number of visitors.

But Manager reported that Ruamsin is also facing threats from those who have have lost out due to the ending of corruption.

The only way to stop the threats and corruption is to investigate and convict those responsible giving them hefty prison terms and confiscating the money they have stolen from the Thai people and it looks like we are not looking at a few thousand baht here and there...........................over several years it amounts to billions

This country is one very sick puppy and it seems that nobody is willing to do anything about it because they are "all" on the take, must be costing Pheu Thai and the reds an absolute fortune not being able to get their noses fully in the trough for such a long time.
