Thais "lovin' it" as Ronald McDonald moves into Phi Phi Island

McDonalds has arrived in one of Thailand's most iconic tourist spots - Phi Phi Island.

The burger giant's Facebook page said that their new store would be open from 8am to 10pm serving breakfast and their delicious menu throughout the day.

Thais who went online to comment were all positive about the new store.

Prapasiri Klongboom even suggested: "Why not open 24 hours? When we leave the pubs we can get a Mac".

Ratchada Tilarak asked when McDonald's were going to open in Koh Lanta while others suggested different places for stores.

Many left comments to others to meet at the Phi Phi store for a bite to eat.

But the one foreigner commenting was less enthusiastic.

Frank Rebholz moaned: "What the heck. You rubbish this island (for a) long time. Now you gonna kill yourself".

Maccie D......now bringing obesity and heart disease to the Islands.

All those foam containers bobbing about in the sea. Won't it just look so pretty. NOT!!

1989 - The only things on the island were some picnic tables and chairs. These were used by boat tour outfits for lunch. There was not a single structure or building of any kind. Now they have Rotten Ronnies

They don't use foam anymore. They are paper type. I was going to.say.cardboard but that's not correct. More like a stiff paper

OMG! Can they not keep this disgusting 'food' and lifestyle away from places like Phi Phi? Perhaps not. Money, corruption and idiots all walk hand-in-hand.

Gotta admit I like my egg McMuffin but the problem with McDs and all the other chains is the homogenization of the world's cultures.  What was once a unique and pristine place is now no different than some downtown strip mall in any other country.  When it stops being different and interesting it stops being desirable.

I seem to remember the burgers tasting like cardboard, but fortunately that was about 30 years ago. About the last time that I set foot in McDonald's.

A nice little civilization in decline......

That island has become nothing more than Kao San-on Sea.

Perhaps.... or perhaps tourists prefer Ronnie’s brand of fat, to Thailand’s brand of sally monella..... so... give the customer ( tourists) what they want, vs what some Thai culinary experts degree as traditional food.

having tasted both as breakfast dish’s.... and abhorring Macdonald’s by rule.... I’d got a McMuffins myself.

modernity brings diversity... diversity should be encouraged

Amazing what a few years can do to a place!

Thailand should ban garbage food, which has been proved to be bad for your health.
