Whats with all the new cameras going up at so many intersections?

I've seen several new camera's go up in the past few weeks in Nong Hoi and Saraphi at just about every intersection.  Are these just to check traffic conditions or are they finally looking at catching traffic offenders?  Several of the cameras look like they have (infrared?) LED's mounted under them as well.

They're also working on a point system to keep track & punish/remove dangerous drivers....

Guessing it wouldn't take too many red light violations/jumpers before their licence gets yanked....

Seems like a step in the right direction considering they don't really have any rolling traffic enforcement....

A giant spy system imported from the government's friends in china, who know all about this sort of thing. Facial recog, car recog, and soon motorbike recognition will soon bring T'land into the -oops, back into the dark ages; just like china.

Wouldn’t they have to be in possession of a license in order to get it yanked?

Just to keep postulation and theorizing all fair and balanced, did you know that the Thai Immigration computer system that takes your pictures and scans your passports (aka biometrics) is a freebie from the US government? It is already accessible by US authorities and supports additional options such as finger printing, etc..

True in some cases - guess they can just yank the vehicle in that case - that would seriously impinge them.....

Cameras aren't so effective if they are not hooked up to anything. And if they are, will anyone even spend the hours going through the videos?

Do you have any idea how many vehicles run red lights at any give intersection in merely an hour?
