Last day of holiday. Visited Wat Khunaram Temple (Mummified Monk). First thing I spotted was a young black dog covered in sores and mange - so much so half of its body was without hair and every bone of its body stuck through its skin. It was unable to use its back legs properly and its cries of pain made me weep. I am no vet but I know that there is nothing that can be done for this dog. It needs to be humanely destroyed as soon as possible. Despite it being in a place of worship no-one official at the Temple was interested so I forgot about the sightseeing and drove to the Dog Rescue Centre where I told the staff what I had seen. They promised to investigate but I could see how busy they were - on the off chance they haven’t visited the Temple and you happen to see this dog please consider doing something - either tell the Dog Rescue Centre what you have seen or tell the vet in Lamui.

There is nothing more I can do except post this. This dog is dying an excruciating death.

NB I have travelled extensively around Ko Samui - there are loads of dogs - the vast majority are well treated and are living the life of Riley!

thanks for your interest in the sick dog. why did you not drive it to a vet.

there are many dogs like that in koh samui, you just haven't seen them. as you describe the dog it can still be cured and there is no need to put it down. IF someone would care about it. of course it is in a miserable state but dogs can recover from the most horrible states, no vet would put it down.

hope too someone goes there and helps the poor thing, i would not hesitate but i have lots of dogs here myself who need all my time and energy.

It's never too late to help out these poor creatures.

When we picked up our little 4-6 week-old pup from the local temple, he was all skin and bones. He could hardly walk or eat, and we took him straight to PhaNgan Animal Care, where these good people gave him a 50/50 chance of making it to the end of the week.

Two-three weeks of some TLC, and the little guy is now three times the size, and full of life.

jose, thanks for the story and lovely pics, well done!! :o

i wished more people would do the same, as you say, it's never too late, and if it's just to let the creature feel the love and care of a human for its last days and that it's not alone... the love and affection especially rescued dogs and cats will give back to you is unbelievable and they are the most wonderful pets and friends...

it's never too late... to give a little bit...
