Buri Ram farmer Somboon Khongdee, who won a money prize of Bt12 million from the government lottery draw, will wire Bt1 million donation to Buri Ram Centre Hospital this Sunday as a token of gratitude for their good care in treating his kidney disease-suffering wife.

The donation-conferring ceremony would be held on December 24, said the 54-year-old Somboon's daughter, Pornsuda, 20. The donation was what Somboon had intended to do if he ever won a lottery as he much appreciated the hospital staff's good care for his wife La-aing, 52, said Pornsuda.

This was a far cry from the previous situation where Somboon was about to sell his eight-rai (1.28-hectare) ricefield in Plap Pla Chai district to fund the medical treatment for his wife, who was in the fifth and final state of chronic kidney disease.

The windfall would help him to save the rice field and have money to treat his wife.

In his report to the Muang Buri Ram Police Station on Thursday about his lottery win from the December 16 round, Somboon also said he would donate Bt20,000 to the Muang Buri Ram precinct, and Bt80,000 to the Plap Pla Chai precinct and the Plap Pla Chai hospital.

He would have been better to pay for a kidney transplant for his wife rather than give money away , much of which I am sure will find its way into the wrong pockets
