Police to get tough with cars with loud engine noise

 

 

Police in Bangkok will get tough with cars and motorcycles which emit loud noise exceeding 90 decibel starting in March, according to Traffic Police Division of Metropolitan Police Bureau.

 

Pol Lt-Col Swit Charoenphol, an inspector attached to the 5th subdivision of Traffic Police Division, said that police were now well-prepared to strictly enforce the law regarding emissions and car engine noise after the Pollution Control Department had provided training to traffic policemen on the handling of equipment to test the emissions and engine noise of cars and motorcycles for the past three months.

 

However, he said that the check of engine noise would be undertaken in Bangkok’s suburbs where there are more open space and with less high-rises which would ensure more accurate reading of engine noise.

Good. The number of cowboys riding their super noisy motorcycles in Bangkok is getting to be irritating.

It can't be too soon either. I insert earplugs when on the road and resort to heavy-duty, industrial-grade hearing protectors (the kind used in at shooting ranges) when things get too crazy-loud indoors. I really can't take it anymore when the Thais start speaking very loudly or even yelling at each other during what should be a normal conversation.

 

The hearing protectors are better suited than the earplugs on the road with the many virtually unmuffled motorcycles, the biggest offender, IMHO.

 

I believe the hearing of many Thais has been severely injured by the high noise levels they have been subject to.

Do it in Pattaya too + trucks and busses please or are police to corrupt and lazy i only see Pattaya police stop tourist never stop the young gangs

And how will this dB be measured? at wide open throttle or at idle speed or which rpm? Close to the exhaust tip or at a distance? The worst offenders are those 4 cyl. ricer boys with the fart can exhausts....or even with a whole muffler delete....while they are at it, get the coal rolling pickups off the road too.

It is truly awful along Sukhumvit all day long. It seems like every motorcycle has a specialist exhaust system or none at all. I now frequently have to over my ears when the green light goes on and the scooter boys take off in a cacophony of ear-splitting sound. It's way out of control.  Same in Pattaya.

What is the definition of a supercar anyway? Have you been to the new Emporium complex in Thonglor, there is a designated parkingspace on the ground floor, supercars only it says. Seen Ferraris and Porches parked there, but , what about all the Benz owners, are they supposed to park on a regular parkinglots??? That's humiliation!

If they're unmodified they don't exceed international noise standards or they wouldn't be allowed to be sold.  That's not sick.

Id  say it's more those  dumbass painted like a girl's  blouse  lorries/trucks that almost make your car explode when  they are  next to you at traffic  lights revving the engine like they are some sort of  F1 supremo.
