If I choose to change address after a few days in Thailand to an apartment instead of a hotel, do I need to report my new address at the immigrations office right after I move in to the new apartment?

And if I haven't reported new address before the 60 day METV renew, and then show my apartment address instead of hotel address when I do the 60 day renew, what happens then?

And does it affect my METV visa time in anyway? new stamp with changed departure time?

Thank you.

If your local immigration office enforces TM-30, and you intend to go there for a 30-day "extension" (not renewal) of your METV 60-day entry - then you should report your change of address to immigration, or make sure your apt-mgr reports you (they may be able to do this online), and get proof they did this to use at immigration later, to avoid a potential fine.

You don’t need to report your change of address as you’re a Tourist. Someone at the addresses you stay at should be reporting your arrival.

Some immigration offices will only issue an extension of stay if someone has reported that you’re staying at the address used on the application form. So if you’re planning an extension make sure someone reports your arrival at your current address.

Thanks for replies.

Reading Thai visa regulations can be really confusing..

I will soon be applying for a METV visa with 2 months hotel reservation because I am not sure I will get the apartment.

But if I get it, my apartment manager will inform immigration about me living there? The embassy in my country only got the hotel information..

Should I show my apartment rental contract to the immigration officer when I go there after the first 60 days?

I am only planning to stay 6 months

Thank you

Maybe - maybe not.  You will need to ask, and if he won't, you should submit it.  The form you will need to fill out is a TM-30.

But, only if your local immigration office enforces this.  Unless you will report to Chang Wattana in Bangkok, who don't require it, I would assume they will enforce it.

I assume you mean going to immigration for a 30-day extension of your 60-days?

If so, within 1 working-day of when you Move In to your new apartment - not weeks later - you should show the contract, along with the TM-30 form, and a signed-copy of landlord's ID and housebook - or you could be fined when you show up later.

That doesn't matter.  What matters is if you will go to your immigration-office for an extension at any point during your stay.  If so, you will need to do TM-30 reporting, first working-day after you move - but, again, only IF your local immigration office enforces TM-30 reporting and IF you want to apply for 30-day extensions of your 60-day on-entry permitted-stays.

Do I not get 3 x 60 days with a METV visa? something I misunderstood? Don't I have to go to immigration 2 times to get stamps?

I get 60 days when I enter Thailand first time, then 60 days more when I get the new stamp at immigration after 60 days .. and one more time ?

It's my first time getting a METV visa, I never been more then 1 month in Thailand

  • At the end of 60 days (max) you need to leave the country, OR apply for a 30 day extension of stay and leave at the end of 90 days.
  • You cannot get 60 more days at immigration for tourism. You can only get a 60 day extension of stay if your the spouse or parent of a Thai.
  • You can enter the country as many times as you like until the visa expires and will get 60 days every time you enter. You're not limited to 3.

I am glad I asked about this here.. Clearly I misunderstood how a METV visa works..

So if I fly out of Thailand on my 59 day and come back 2 days after, what will I get when I enter Thailand, 60 days or just 30?

And can I do that again after 59 days and get 60 or 30 days more?

  • You would get 60 days.
  • Yes, you will get 60 days.

Every time you enter, on or before the ‘enter before’ date printed on the visa, you’ll get 60 days.

Any 60 day entry can be extended, once, at immigration fir 1,900 baht.

When you receive your METV it will have the 'issue date' and an 'enter before' date, which will be 6 months from the date of issue.

You can enter Thailand as many times as you wish up to the 'enter before' date and you will be given permission to stay for 60 days.

You can extend that 60 days by another 30 days at your local IO (1,900).

At the end of the 60/90 days of your choice, you must exit and re-enter the Country to receive another 60 day permission to stay.

You can exit and re-enter within the same hour, you don't have to stay in the other Country.

Ensure you are carrying 10,000 baht when re-entering.

If you are staying for only 6 months, you can apply for two 30 day extensions, meaning you only have to exit/re-enter once.

If you exit and re-enter just before the 'enter before' date you will be given another 60 days which you can extend by 30 days again, so you could stay in Thailand for a total of almost 9 months if you wanted to.

The rule for entering with a Visa is 20,000 Baht.  This should only be an issue if he flies in, or possibly entering via land from Malaysia.

Note to @John8, if flying in, you must have 20K Baht worth of cash (any currency-type) on your person before you board the plane, as there are no ATMs between debarkation in Thailand and the immigration-checkpoint.  Showing a credit-card or similar won't do you any good - you must have Cash or Travelers Checks to show.  Although it is unlikely, people have been denied entry for not having the cash to show - even with a valid METV in their passport.

Thank you Jack, it was a typo error, 20K is correct.
