Last October, when I took re entry permit from Phuket International Airport, they charged me 1500 Baht but everywhere I see the single entry re-entry charge is 1000 Baht. Anyone have idea regarding such overcharging?

The Phuket Immigration Office would have been obliged to provide you with an official receipt with a unique number. What did it say on that? It should have said 1000 Baht. You may upload it here if you still have it.

As another poster stated, it is possible that the extra 500 Baht was unreceipted for extra services such as photos, photocopying or an expedited service. You should have been informed of this extra charge if it occurred.

Shoud have, would have,   these people at immigration at these tourist-places do NOT explain or inform anything unless you ask WHY..... And this OP seems quite unaware of things, a typical victim and pray for Immigration-officials..

YES indirectly you did say that..

But that was not  my point in posting. I was more reacting to 500 baht in service fee...

At Suvarnabhumi, it seems normal to pay an extra 200 baht for services that, I think, are not part of the regular re-entry permit application (taking your photo, and filling out the TM8 for for you). I believe it is possible to avoid the extra charge, but few know that. At Don Muang, it is usual to pay the standard 1000 baht, but you need to have the photo and fill out your own form. I have no experience in Phuket but, in general, I would expect you had a choice between regular and preferential service. You seem to have received their preferential service, where the price may in fact be negotiable.
