(Skinny/vintage) Leather neckties!

Frankie goes to Hollywood, Jomtien soi 7

He usually stands near the Lek Hotel or near the 7-11 at the end of the soi by Jomtien Second Rd.

His skinny knit ties are bunk and not worth the money but his leathers are the bomb.

If he likes you, he can hook you up with a barber that still cuts mullets.

Vintage is 1960s....no mullets then

how old is vintage.... it appears consensus is 20 years plus

Make sure that if you're listing something as "antique clothing" that it is AT LEAST 100 years old (this is different with cars). vintage:Although widely misused, the term "vintage" refers to an item that is at least 20 years old or more (there you go, you 1980's fans!)

You'll need more than just one Google to appreciate the terms for old and reproduction items.

The EU customs definition of "antique" is 50 years

Whether you are using vintage veteran or antique semantically you are using a euphemism for old.

As for me, I actually want repro or retro tie. I don't expect to find a "period" tie. Technically of course "period" would be a term used for pre Victorian items.

In the 1980s the skinny tie was a reference to the designs of the early 1960s therefore in the late 70s/early 80s it may have mostly been repro....mine were genuine,60s

I would have used the term vintage for mine.

How you use the terms may vary according to the item or the period they were manufactured.

Here's an eexample for cars.

Veteran - officially a car made up to and including December 1918. Vintage - officially a car madebetween 1919 and 1930. Although, the term is often used to describe any car made before World War II. Classic - generally any car that is no longer in production that is still popular.

One of the problems with trying to be too dogmatic or pedantic about such terms is that they tend to be applied differently in different countries.

There is also an urge to put a fixed date on the terms which as you can see with the paragraph about cars, it leaves some very old vehicles without an appropriate term.

I would expect in Pattaya to be able to find most likely a reproduction tie.

however in Bangkok I wouldn't be surprised to find some vintage stuff.

wiki on clothing....

Generally speaking, clothing which was produced before the 1920s is referred to as antique clothing and clothing from the 1920s to 20 years before the present day is considered vintage. Retro, short for retrospective, or "vintage style," usually refers to clothing that imitates the style of a previous era."

Problem here is a fixed date for antique that is only now approaching 100 years.

in reality these terms are only a chattel salesman's gimmick...in the same way as "semi-detached" or condominium are used by real estate agents.... and because of their euphemistic nature they serve only to cloud the issue rather than help to give a clearer description of the item.

I`m glad antique in the EU means over 50 years.  If you asked for antique ties in the EU that would be relevant.

If you want 1960`s ties , perhaps 1960`s ties would have been less ambiguous.

Either way, I hope you find your skinny ties.

As in the OP, I'm looking for skinny leather ties.....no predetermined qualifications.
