webfact
Government endorses 7 projects aimed to turn Koh Chang into an eco-tourism haven By Thai PBS The government has accepted in principle seven projects proposed by the residents and business operators of Koh Chang during the visit today (Monday) to Trat province by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o- cha and his cabinet. The prime minister will chair a mobile cabinet meeting in neighbouring Chanthaburi province on tomorrow and Wednesday. Prime Minister Prayut said he hoped the seven proposed projects would transform Koh Chang, the country’s second largest island after Phuket, into a model of eco-tourism city, with quality and safe farm products, skilled labour, strong community and efficient natural resources management. trainman34014
The do make you laugh don't they. We recently visited Koh Chang and it was one of the filthiest places in Thailand, rubbish absolutely everywhere. Even the so called 'Private Beaches' at the Hotels were in a disgusting condition as they have armies of people sweeping up leaves around the Chalets etc but nobody goes near the Beach because ''Nobody tell us to do it '' . The roads on the Island are in awful condition, there are a lot of Wild Monkeys drifting into Hotel Grounds and scrambling around the overhead electrical wires on many roads, food and drink is almost all at inflated prices as are the Songthaew's and the locals light huge fires all over the place day and night. They have a long way to go to be an 'Eco Tourist Haven' !

OJAS
Looks like the bridge proposal has now to all intents and purposes been shelved if the final sentence in the OP link is to be believed:- "One major project which was earlier demand by a large group of tourism operators and residents is a bridge linking the island with Trat mainland. It was however not raised with the prime minister today."
