Tourists asked to return black stones back to Had Hin Ngam beach in Satun

The Tarurao National Marine Park Office in Satun province is asking tourists who took the black stones at the Had Hin Ngam beach back homes as souvenirs from the park to return the stones back to the place if they don’t want to keep them.

 

The call for the return of the “stolen” black stones from the Had Hin Ngam beach came after the office received postal parcels containing the black stones with apology letters inside.

 

They were sent back on postal parcels and some using logistic firms as they didn’t want to identify themselves, he said.

"The mystery of Tarutao" as tourists return stolen beach stones in droves

Dozens of tourists who have taken stones from a popular beach have probably experienced bad luck and mailed the rocks back to the Tarutao national park, said staff.

 

Sanook reported on a case where stones from Hat Hin Ngam (beautiful stone beach) had been returned in an unmarked package from Bangkok.

 

But it was not the first time. In fact every year about six packages arrive at the park headquarters in Satun in the south of Thailand.

 

This amounts to 20 or 30 stones a year and it has been going on for many years.

 

They don't just come from Bangkok - they are mailed back from all over Thailand. The senders don't leave any details.

 

Some people who have thought better of taking the stones have even flown back and returned the stones to the beach personally.

 

Staff believe there is powerful magic associated with the spirit of the beach and that this might cause misfortune to befall anyone who takes the stones.

 

The people who took the stones probably suffered misfortune as a result, they said, and wanted the stolen stones to go back to where they belong to assuage this.

 

Thaivisa notes that Thais in general are very reticent to bring certain items home that are considered the property of spirits as it may lead to misfortune.

??? And One wonders....are they really ready for true democracy?

So that's what's been going on around here!

I really can't imagine the look on his face at Thai Post , or would a Thai postie expect stones being sent. I think I would rather send old knickers back to where I stole them from , soo much cheaper.
