I have a friend who will coming to Thailand in April. He will have a Non-Immgrant Multiple type O visa (to visa friends). He is 65 years old and has adequate funds. He plans to stay one year leaving thailand every 90 days to visit Singapore , HongKong etc.

Question: At the end of the year when his type O expires he may decide to stay in Thailand and retire, can he transfer his type O visa (not OA) to a retirement visa, and if he can what information will he need to supply to immigration.

thanks

Yes but he should do it 3 or 4 weeks before his last permitted to stay entry ends. He will have to present his passport/copies, current visa and entry card/copies, current 4x6cm photo, bank passbook/copies with bank letter confirming last account balance. If is is using 800k bank deposit method the passbook must confirm it has been at or above that level for the previous three months. If he uses the 65k monthly income method he will require a letter from his Embassy confirming he says this is is pension/income and supporting proof such as payment statements, tax reports or such. Cost is 1,900 baht for form TM.7 which can be downloaded or filled out in office. Future travel will require a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand and 90 day address reports will be required if in Thailand more than 90 days at a time.
