pookiki
I, like many other people, downloaded the free version of Windows 10. Starting this morning, I started receiving a message that my Windows 10 license will expire soon and that I needed to provide my organization's license number. Has anyone else experienced this problem? What, if anything, should I do? Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks in advance for the help Going to hazard a guess here and say that your initial installation (before downloading W10) was a pirated Enterprise copy which was time-limited. When installing W10, your confuser has retained the original activation, ie, you didn't have to enter a key when the upgrade was complete. I here you poohy on your recommendation.............. , but if you need to be legit, you need to change your key from Enterprise to retail and activate. As i said, only a guess
jenny2017
If I were you, I'd buy a genuine license from E-Bay. Available for less than $ 15. Using Spico as one poster here mentioned is not the right decision, it will always bite you. All you need to do is to insert an activation key, the rest will be done by Windows. pookiki
Here's what happened. I was using Windows 7 and had upgraded to Windows 10 on an Acer notebook. Then, my hard drive failed. I went to Pantip Plaza for a replacement hard drive. The technician at the shop told me that he would be able to put on Windows 10 but when all was said and done, he put on a pirated version of Windows 8. I upgraded again. So, it would appear that the pirated version of Windows 8 is the culprit. I will follow the advice on getting a license from E-Bay. I already used Spico. Is that a problem? Thanks, everyone! It might be much better to start over again with a fresh installation as Khun BenQ has already mentioned. And make a backup when finished. RichCor
The cheap "License/Activation" codes on eBay are usually no better than using a keygen or KMSpico. They're not genuine OEM or Retail activation license codes. KMS (Key Management System) is a technique used by license providers allowing large corporations and other entities to manage costs and license deployments by having authentication done by an in-house KMS Server. KMS activates computers on a local network, eliminating the need for individual computers to connect to Microsoft. KMS activations are valid for 180 days. A lot of the 'keys' sold on eBay and the like are actually KMS real or fake keygen licenses ... they are not valid for individual installs (even if they seem to work). Your three legal licensing paths that I'm aware of are: Win 7 to Win 10 upgrade. If your Acer Notebook came with a Windows 7 COA (Certificate Of Authenticity) sticker or code embedded in BIOS/UEFI they you might be able to use that to legitimately upgrade from a Windows-7 to Window-10 ... though it may involve contacting Microsoft to have them reset the digital entitlement (digital license key) on their server to allow activation on any repaired hardware.. If you took the free Win-7 to Win-10 upgrade during their windows of opportunity then that device is approved for the 'life of the device'. So re-activation would be free. Though re-installation may always involve first installing Win 7 then initiating the upgrade process to Win 10. Any hardware change may require you to contact Microsoft to have them reset the digital entitlement on their server to allow activation on any repaired hardware. Purchase a 'RETAIL' activation key. Actually, as Microsoft is so screwy on their licensing, some people can buy 'OEM' activation keys and have them work. Just purchase and enter the code. Note, 'UPGRADE' keys technically also work but usually require Win 7/8/8.1 be installed and properly 'activated' -- allowing the upgrade key and Win-10 upgrade install then to proceed. Purchase a Windows-10 license directly using the Microsoft Online Store process. This would be an electronic key, with usual instant authentication upon purchase. The keys I bought of EBay were all Retail-keys. Four machines are running well and smoothly, without any problems. It might be good to look at the EBay seller's "reputation" , before buying. Pib
The two Win 10 Pro licenses I bought off Ebay well over a year ago at approx $15 each from a Ebay seller in Europe all acitivate fine here in Thailand...work fine..update fine....etc... on my two computers running Win 10 and are a retail versions according to using the Windows slmgr command....see snapshot below from one of the computers. And three Office 2016 licenses I bought off of Ebay from another Ebay seller in Europe over a year for around $15 each also activated fine here in Thailand....work fine...update fine...etc. on my three computers....two running Win 10...one running Win 7. My understanding is these are usually licenses removed/un-installled from other computers....and in the EU such licenses can be legally resold by individuals/companies unlike places such as in the U.S. That's why you see some many Windows licenses for sale on Ebay...and Ebay does not remove the great, great majority of the ads because they are legal resells...and that why the great, great number of feedback ratings to the seller are positive because the licenses work just fine. mtls2005
I too have purchased Windows 10 (and Office 2016) licenses on eBay. I've done two of each, all were in the range of $12 - $15 (USD), all working fine. All legal (per EU laws). There are other reliable sites like Kinguin, but the prices trend into the $30 USD range there. Again all good and legal.
