The housing project now under construction at the foot of Doi Suthep-Pui national park in Chiang Mai’s Mae Rim district has been legally approved and is not located in forest area, president of the Court of Appeal Region 5 has confirmed.

Chiang Mai-based environmental groups have been opposing the housing project for years, suspecting that it encroaches on forest area.

Sawat Surawattananan, president of the Court of Appeal Region 5, which is responsible for the project, on Thursday (Feb 28) explained that the project site was located on a land plot occupied by the Treasury Department under the Ministry of Finance.

Looking at that photo, even a blind mole can see that it was built in a forested area.

It is not a forested area, they removed the trees.

Am I reading this right? The president of a court of appeal is responsible for a huge housing project. Amazing just how much you can put by on govt pay these days.

Yes, but justice is also blind.

Would not worry about it, Thailand is trying to do its best to destroy its beautiful scenery and turn the planet into Coruscant !

Classic case of "Can't see the forest for the trees"

Next thing you know, they will want to clear the surrounding area of trees because of threat of forest fire to recently built dwellings. :whistling:

Of course Sawat is defending the housing project, his freebie mansion is almost complete.

Same old same old one law for the rich one law for the poor. Same throughout the world only more obvious in Thailand. They don't even try to hide it here even try to justify it.

Damn those pesky drones taking pictures like that. No wonder you need a licence to buy and operate one.

Wolves and foxes ruling for the wolves and foxes.  Bugger the rabbits and chickens!  Second oldest profession:  Elites bending the laws to benefit the elites.
"Nothing to see here, now move along.....we have real encroachment cases on the dockets."

Never mind the trees.

Who is paying for that? ??

It will be coming out of the court fines and bail money of defaulters:sad:

the houses at the top ,looks like a landslide waiting to happen.

A judge who will have a nice new house there to live for free says that everything is legal... what a surprise.

"Conflicting interests" is a term that's unknown in Thailand?

Oh! ! That's why there's no money for tv and video in the court rooms.

The struggle I had trying to show the judge video on a laptop , whilst prosecutor, lawyer and all parties crouched below the computer so he could see, was hilarious.

Or maybe that's why there's no money for legal assistance for poor people.

And so on.
