webfact
Pattaya to be developed as "Tourism for All" city FILE photo CHON BURI, 2 March 2018 (NNT) - Chon Buri and relevant organizations have collaborated to develop Pattaya as a city of "Tourism for All," by constructing facilities for the elderly and persons with disabilities. The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (Public Organization) and the Friendly Design For All Foundation, on Thursday launched a project to develop tourist sites under the concept of Tourism for All in Pattaya and its region. The idea is to help everyone, regardless of their age and physical ability, to travel conveniently and safely. The concept of friendly design will be used to develop the tourist sites. Minister of Tourism and Sports, Weerasak Kowsurat, and Minister of Transport Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, jointly presided over the opening ceremony of the project in the province. Eighteen organizations in both the public and private sectors signed an MoU on the establishment of Tourism for All tourist sites in the resort city. -- nnt 2018-03-02

Justgrazing
Some of the competitors in the inaugural mobscoot Grand Prix found Walking St walker's wandering onto the track .. This would have to be ironed out before FIA gave its blessings .. 1
4MyEgo
I thought it was already a friendly tourist destination for all, with disabilities & being a few years older than most, warts and all that is Edited March 1, 2018 by 4MyEgo
Popular Post PatOngo
Great development, no reason why corrupt police, ladyboys, criminals and tourist families can't co exist in the Family Resort. The recent murder of a foreign tourist by another foreign tourist and the beating of a visiting soldier by a local watch seller and friends will attract "All" in droves......Get Real! 6 1

mok199
the entire city cannot be improved I suggest they concentrate on ''beach rd'',a freeway next to your beach is insanity,my advice is to (ideally)close ,,or limit the ttraffic and the speed on beach rd, make some green friendly spaces for kids and famillys..''protect the beach'' it is all we have...

Get Real
I guess that was a clear step down from "World Class Family Resort" anyway. Maybe the spikes in the chest are starting to sink in. That city is doomed! Soon they will make a new movie about it: "Last Plane Out 2" Edited March 2, 2018 by Get Real

Its hardly even qualifies as suitable for people without any disability to walk but closing Beach Rd doesn't seem to help, it would get taken over by market stalls selling junk!

DoctorG
From my travels around most of Thailand I cannot think of any place that the impaired or disabled could negotiate with relative ease. Maybe Colin (?) could comment here.

Even for a perfectly fit person Thailands streets and side walks must be some of the worst you can find in the region; speeding motorbikes on the side walks, live electric cables hanging from above, open sewer holes you can fall into if you don't watch out, low steel bars supporting rain and sun shades you can bang your head into. They are dreaming again!
mikebell
Never mind the tourists, how about some protection for local companies from predatory police? More of their profits could then be ploughed into improving services.

skorp13
Why not leave Pattaya for what it is and focus on other areas of Thailand that were far more beautiful and are turning to crap. Surely Pattaya can't be the golden child and only place to focus on. If i was a tourist, married and a kid in a stroller walking st is the last place i would come to visit. Doesn't mean i wouldn't come to Thailand though!
Lupatria
By only reading the words "Tourism for all" in the headline, I thought this was a new initiative to lure more Yakuza, paedophile, biker gangs, credit card scammer, cage fighter, and balcony jumper to visit the family friendly "Miami of the East" to make it a little bit more exciting. You are absolutely right. The first thing is for the authorities to make sur e the sidewalks are walkable. In addition to enabling all people to walkwithout the danger of falling down, but make the place look like a decent area where families like to spend some time. Look and follow the example of Bali. Not just in Pattaya either. Hua Hin centre is not much better. Broken kerbs, missing pavoirs, metal signs at head height, dangling cables, and uneven or partly missing drain covers are just a few of the problems. Orac
Going for the low hanging fruit now rather than the near impossible family market. Next week they they will be able to show the new tourism minister down Soi Buakhow and demonstrate the massive success of their campaign in such a short space of time with the number of elderly and infirm tourists there. Tony125
I really don't know why Thai can't figure out how to run a destination for all. Las Vegas has been known as Sin City in USA but it has something for everyone.. Prostitution is allowed ( outside the city limits) , Gambling in casinos is allowed but you must be an adult to enter a casino. ( In Connecticut Foxwoods alows children in hotel and many areas but not in the casinos) they have strip shows and other entertainment and many family oriented things to do. I went to Walking Street last week to show a visiting friend around and could not believe how many Chinese tour groups (6 I counted) and European couples were strolling around with young children amazed at the debauchery they were seeing. Walking Street and other areas such as Soi 6 she be blocked off and designated Adult Only areas and no one under 18 should be alowed in. Same as some states have a section of beach set aside for topless bathing and in EU nude. Can have areas like Aquarium, Temple of Truth, Malls , ect set aside for families but Adult Zone only areas for those that want to see near naked girls or adult themes.
