Hey all

I'm coming to Phuket at the end of next month to live for a while and will be looking for a decent gym around Patong or those neighboring beaches (Kata, Karon etc I think).

I would prefer something well equipped and with lots of ventilation/cool air (working out in the Thai heat should be interesting!). Also if anyone knows how much I can expect to pay for a 6 or 12 month membership that would be good too.

Thanks!

Ther's a fairly decent one near the southern end of Patong and the OTOP market and Dive shops (name escapes me at present) and a friend who is a regular says it's a solid establishment.

As for prices I'd expect to pay western membership fees whilst the owner enjoys Thai overheads. Lack of competition and the like is much of it no doubt. If your happy with that then It's probably the best in Patong. As soon as I remember the name I'll post unless another member chips in first.

Hi

I cant tell you the name of the gym, but I can tell you where it is.

Imagine if you were standing in Bangla road with your back to the sea. Now walk down until you reach Rat-U- Tit Road, and turn left. Now cross the road and keep walking. You will soon find yourself at some traffic lights, turn right. At the lights, there should be a signpost telling you that you should right turn there for the Police Station and the Hospital. Walk up here, and turn right into a small soi which leads into a square. The gym is at the bottom left.

It is easily the equal of anything you have had in the west. Lots of resistance and aerobic stuff with aircon. Its worth going just to see all the fit beautiful women in there.

If you want to find the best gym in Phuket, it is definitely Island Muscle (Chalong Gym) and is located across from Land & Houses Park. They have the best nutrition and personal training around and a month long membership is 1000 baht. I think for six months you will save 500-1000 thb, and of course even more for 1 year.

If you head towards phuket town from chalong circle, about 3 km down the road and on the right side is the gym and you can't miss the big sign they've got.

Thanks everyone, you've given me some great sounding gyms to check out.

@ the last poster - wow, that is insanely cheap! I was hoping for 5,000 bt and under!

Likewise with all the "fit, beautiful, women", I went to one gym once last time I was on holiday in Phuket and didn't see jack shit :o

They don't have aircon though in Chalong that's why I stopped going there. Their leg extention and leg curl machine is in a bad condition as well so that you don't have the same resistance on both legs cause the bar that makes contact with your legs is not even. Otherwise they've got most things you would need.

Hallo,

you seem to be quite a lazy guy/girl. Let others work for you. Very clever...

Reason: The question for gyms was just recently asked at the Phuket forum. A little research would have shown you the thread (dated 2006-11-04). And just a minute check in "Google" for gyms in Phuket would have shown you the homepage of "Phuket.net". And under the headline "Phuket Living" and the topic "Gyms" are various adresses.

Meh, so you going to answer my question or are you just another wannabe moderator?

There is a great gym at The Hilton in Karon. Excellent facilities! If you join as a Hilton Member you get all sorts of discounts for meals at the various restaurants, free nights stay at some of their hotels, can use their swimming pools, as well as the gym and squash court facilities. For details contact Nikki there. She is extremly helpful.

They've got aircon and I've never had any problems with their leg extension machine. I know what you mean about the leg curl machine, but I've always been able to work out the hamstrings without any trouble.
