Which is the better choice Amazon Firestick or Fire TV?

Hi.

I will be going to Thailand (specifically Pattaya) for about 6 months.

Looking to purchase either Amazon Firestick or Fire TV box before I arrive.

The hotel I will be staying has good wireless internet connection. Don’t remember the up/download speed.

I need to email hotel regarding their in-room satellite TV having a HDMI port. (never checked when I stayed previously).

(Q)

1. Which device would you choose Firestick or Fire TV?

2. Will both work well in Thailand?

3. How’s the speed,

4. I am not an Amazon Prime subscriber and will be using 3^rd party apps more often.

Should it matter if I do not use a VPN when using my Amazon box.
 

My Preferences:

Streaming clear/sharp live TV channels with many US choices, PPV would be a plus.

Upon arrival, I plan to subscribe to Gears TV and sideload Gears + KODI to the Amazon box.

TV shows & VOD ok, but can download their torrent files from PC.

Minimal buffering.

Additional storage space for more apps.

HD is ok, but not a deal breaker.
 

The last IT forum review on this Topic was in 2016. Just looking for some current feedback from Amazon Fire TV/Stick users.
