Judging from what I've read online, it's apparently a hassle to exchange Lao kip into any other currency outside of Laos. Had never heard about this before and went on a direct bus to Thailand the other week so didn't want to hassle with exchanging it at the border.

Any chance I can exchange it somewhere in Bangkok? It's about 700000 kip if I remember correctly.

Once upon a time i exchanged LAK to THB at Bangkok Bank in Udon Thani. So if you see one you could ask, but i think the chances are very small in Bangkok. So maybe just keep it for the next time when you go to Laos.

2500 Baht, why bother.

That's about exactly the overnight rate for a freelancer, many of whom are Laotian. Just tell her beforehand how you want to pay and you could have a win-win with boom-boom.

Here's a thought - why don't I give it to you then and you give me 2500 baht, since such an insignificant amount doesn't seem to matter to you anyway?

I found a place in Bangkok to change Lao KIP to BAHT. They only accept notes bigger than 10k. It was a relief, due to ”useless money” in my wallet. Tourist info desk in Central world plaza said that SuperRich Thailand also accepts KIPs. All other major banks I visited today just said NO.
