Hi TV members.

First of all, i did my homework/research, but found conflictual infos...

My 16 months old child needs a Thai passport to travel to France with her Mum.

I am not married with the Mum and she is going to go to Korat next week to apply for a Thai  passport for the child.

The GF phoned the passport service in Korat and apparently they want a letter of consent from me which i must go to get at the Thai Embassy in Paris...

Can anyone confirm this??

I think the letter is to give your GF permission to take the child out of Thailand, and not for the passport. I could be wrong.

I've applied for several child passports at korat office.

They always insisted the father came along.

So I think it's true.

Last time they refused to issue unless I flew from china for the application, even though it was just a renewal .

My wife obtained a passport for her daughter without the father being present.

But she had to obtain a form from the local town hall.

The form was a kor bor 14 and was free.

If the mother has sole responsibility for the child (legally), she can get the passport, but would need to have the paperwork showing that legal sole responsibility. Otherwise both parents usually have to attend.

There is the option, when one of the parents is out of the country, to submit the form giving permission in writing at the embassy for the child to get the passport with only the other parent present. (I did this once when my wife was in London while I was in Thailand with the kids - she had to do the form at the embassy).
