For US TV- Question about Application Receipt/Petition Number

Featured Replies

A Thai friend of mine wants to travel to the States on a tourist visa. he'll be staying 3 months at a temple, has got an invitation letter from an Alaskan Thai temple and we couldn't continue the application form because I have no idea from where to get the Application Receipt/Petition number.

If anybody could share some light, I'd be very thankful. Please see attached file.

Thanks a lot for your post, will let you know what I find out. The weird thing is that at this stage of the application, it's still a lot to fill out, and there's nothing on their website that explains what they want.

 Thanks.

Forget the call center, I've just wasted 15 minutes, the answering machine shifts you through many different places, without the chance to talk to somebody.

I then decided to send them an e-mail and I've also pointed out why they made the form so difficult for Thai citizens. I hope that I'll get an answer soon, will update then.

This may help

Petitions

Your prospective employer must file Form I-129, Petition for Nonimmigrant Worker, with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). For more detailed information regarding the filing of Form I-129, as well as requirements, please refer to the USCIS R-1 Temporary Nonimmigrant Religious Worker web page.

The traveler isn't applying as a potential worker, just as a tourist.

Perhaps that means the block can be left blank?  Guess we'll find out when Jenny responds later.

But according to Jenny's original post and attachment, the traveler is applying as a potential worker, the religious worker R1 visa, and not as a tourist, which would be the B1/B2 visa.   As you say, that is probably more likely what he should be applying for, but we really don't know that.

yes, the OP does say he wants a tourist visa, but then the application says he is applying for the R1 visa, and for that, they need the petition information.  You really have to read every part of the visa application very, very carefully.

It seems that the Thai guy has found a way to sort it out, as he didn't come back. I've just received an -email today from US Visa Service Desk:

Weird is that I've filled out a form already and wrote what the problem is. Considering that the Thai guy didn't come back, I don't know if he needs a business, or a tourist visa to stay at a temple, invited by a Thai temple's monk with the needed paperwork.

The guy showed up at my house and had already started to fill out the particular form. Thank you very much.
