What happens when using a re entry permit?

Never having used a re entry permit before, I'm concerned to know what is supposed to happen as opposed to what might happen to stuff up my return into Thailand. I don't want to return thinking I've got several months before my extension expires, only to find an errant immigration officer cancelled my extension and I only get 30 days.

Is there a special stamp on exit, or is it the same stamp one gets when leaving without a re entry permit?

You will get the standard entry/admitted until stamp when you enter the country. The admitted until date will be the same as the day your extension ends.

Put your re-entry permit number in the space for a visa number on the TM6 arrival card.

Always check that your admitted until date is correct before leaving the arrival immigration area. If wrong bring it to their attention so it can be immediately corrected

Thank you for that. With all the horror stories about people not being allowed in because of some minor error or changes in regulations as seems to be happening frequently, leaving for the first time on a re entry permit has become worrying, but at least I was able to go on here and get the good news.

Now I know what to expect, I won't be getting stressed when they give me that exit stamp.

When I was a young fella, flying around the world was a great adventure, and bothered me not at all, but age makes us not only infirm, but ( in my case anyway ) nervous. Problems I could have handled easily when young become monumental obstacles when one can't get around well, and the body hurts in places it shouldn't.

I also write "re-entry" next to the box, whether it makes any odds I know not, but I've never had a negative comment from an IO.

Tell IO on return you have re-entry permit, extra precaution

I have never entered with the officer stamping in error, missing the extension date, don't worry, and I have entered many many times....

I always asterisk the re-entry permit number and write หน้า (page) and the page number of my permit in the passport. They've never missed it in 12 or so entries.

I think the major point is as others have said check your extension expiry, is the same date as on IOs stamp, before leaving the desk!
