A sedan that caught on fire at the Pha Sawei area in Kalasin’s Somdet district early on Tuesday morning was found to be loaded with 60 Siamese rosewood logs, according to police.

The Jit-asa Ruamjai Kalasin association’s rescue workers responded to a report at 4am and found an unoccupied Toyota bronze-coloured sedan, with the licence plate “Kor Khor 5618 Surin”, on fire in Somdet-Sakhon Nakhon road. They took 20 minutes to put out the flames and then found the rosewood logs, so they alerted Royal Forestry Department officials.

Police were told that when the rescue workers arrived the scene, an unnamed man was standing near the car. As they tackled the blaze, the man – believed to be the driver attempting to smuggle the valuable timber out of Kalasin – got away. Police are trying to locate the car’s owner.

Astonishing how much crime here is caught purely by accident

60 logs in a car that size? they must be small logs.
what is done with them...cut up into sawdust and sold by the ounce?
