And, this is serious TV that is also humorous.

Really, I wish there were more.

The Fawlty Towers things are also funny, but have less meat.

Maybe, also, the Yes Minister episodes will be too difficult for someone who is not more conversant with the politics of the UK, even though we can still appreciate some of the humor.

Many years ago, we used to look to British film and some TV to see products that were better than much of what we got in the USA.

I have not been watching any TV since 1979, when I recall taking in a Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman before boarding the plane and saying ByeBye to TV for literally years.

Where I was, almost all TV was nonexistent due to martial law, and the blocking of international radio was also practiced.

Once a week, we had Mission Impossible, and that fat man comedian from the UK that was so popular in the 1980s.

Why mention him here.

Mostly undaring sex jokes and sex skits.

Yes Minister was brilliant. After a break of a couple of years the series returned , having become Yes Prime Minister. Enjoy watching!

The series, Yes Prime Minister, was re-made in 2013 with 6 episodes, featuring current events. I haven't seen those.

Where were you situated GMG with the martial law?

Lone Survivor

Starring Mark Wahlberg, tells the story of four Navy SEALs on an ill-fated covert mission to neutralize a high-level Taliban operative who are ambushed by enemy forces in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. Based on The New York Times bestseller. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/lone_survivor/

For myself this was on a par with recent war flicks such as The Hurt Locker and Black Hawk Down. Well worth a watch

8/10 from me

I had read the book and like that sort of thing, but I have to admit that the combat scenes went on too much for my tastes. Still, not a bad movie.

Dallas Buyers Club is the movie where Matthew McConoughy (yummy) got so skinny to play a guy with HIV AIDs. Very moving. Based on a true story.

Am also watching The Taste food contest thing which is good, with Nigella Lawson and obviously for my eyes - the unforgettable Anthony Bourdin.... swoon.

Hopefully next week i shall be able to get back to my usual CSI, Criminal Minds and Greys Anatomy after a couple of weeks of Xmas holiday halt.

Good news on the UK series - i heard or read that Broadchurch and The Fall are coming back. As is Downtown Abbey.

Since I always hate this winter hiatus that the networks do, here's a useful link detailing the return dates:

Thanks, so another ten days to wait until i get my CSI and Criminal Minds fix.

Interesting about Downton. I didn't see that one. At least when i download it i don't get the ads every 10 bladdy minutes!!

I shall investigate. Just have, you were talking about the Xmas Special. Seen and enjoyed.

Totally different subject - i missed the new ones of the Jeremy Kyle Show this morning!!!? Still curled up beside the radiator in this horrible cold, but sunny, weather.

Closed Circuit, for a British Spy film... Superb... I'm giving it an 8/10... Lots of good twists and turns and "oh, why didn't I see that coming, it was so obvious in hindsight."

Bana very good, better than the spy he played in Munich...

Also, if you can get your hands on it, have a look at Upper Middle Bogan... ABC series, real pisser...

Downloaded a "screener" of "12 Years A Slave".

For those who don't know, the studios send these out to critics etc for evaluation before awards but, often, they find their way onto torrent sites.

Powerful movie; outstanding performances

Finished watching 12 years a Slave. Terrific stuff

8/10 from me

Trend Setters

Saw an episode of Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda last week on CTH

and caught an episode again last night.

This series is really growing on me and Lt Kenda who narrates is quite

the character. He sets it apart from the plethora of other cop shows.

I'm really getting into this one.

Series.

I watched season 1 of the new 'Dracula' series last week, quite liked it. Interesting to see Drac has Van Helsing under his thumb, which is an interesting spin on things.

Looking forward to it re-starting again after the winter break in the USA.

Also been re-watching 'The Shield'.

Movies ?

Have been watching a lot of Hong Kong crime movies this week.

"Infernal Affairs 1, 2 & 3" are all fantastic and worth watching. (these are the movies that 'The Departed' was based upon).

"Overheard" is also very good.

"The Yellow Sea" (2010) is a good Korean flick that really impressed me.

"Out of the funrace" is a good new flick, as is "American Hustle"

I spent many years in the big T.

Lots of fun, a time when most pop culture from the west was barred from disturbing my thoughts,

And equanimity.

Just finished The Empty Hearse which is episode 1, of Sherlock season 3.

I'm glad to say the quality and magic is still there.

The second episode is out there now with the final episode due on the 12 Jan.

Again, highly recommended.

Don't forget all the quality nudity in Banshee.

In season 1, the naked Amish teen was well worth a look.

Intelligence wasn't all that good, Helix (double episode pilot) is downloading now.

I have a love/hate relationship with Revolution. Half the characters I would rejoice if they actually did get killed (especially the Charlie Matteson character, if she got slaughtered in her sleep I'd be cheering). The plot can at times make me groan. The episode when Rachel turned the electricity back on for about ten minutes was especially awful. The whole world is in apocalyptic decay, but somehow the power stations miraculously come back online all by themselves, Puhleeeeze...

There have been so many much much better scifi shows which have been cancelled (Flash Forward, Defying Gravity, The Event, Terra Nova, to name but a few) after one or less seasons which were way better.

Well thats my Sunday morning TV rant completed, time for breakfast. I feel soooo much better now LOL

Escape Plan.

One of the world's foremost authorities on structural security agrees to take on one last job: breaking out of an ultra-secret, high-tech facility called "The Tomb." Deceived and wrongly imprisoned, Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone) must recruit fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to help devise a daring, nearly impossible plan to escape from the most protected and fortified prison ever built. ESCAPE PLAN is the first pairing of action legends Sylvester Stallone and ArnoldSchwarzenegger in leading roles, and co-stars Jim Caviezel, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Vinnie Jones, Vincent D'Onofrio and Amy Ryan. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/escape_plan/

Generally I like this type of movie, but this one is a bit of a shocker in so many ways. Arnie steals the show. Stallone should retire from the big screen.

3/10 from me

The Wolf of Wall Street: Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort,

from his rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life to his fall

involving crime, corruption and the federal government.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0993846/?ref_=cht_bo_4

Buckle in gang as this one goes for 3 hours.

Would be a hard slog in a cinema sitting there for that long.

I really enjoyed this one. Glad to see Scorsese and DiCaprio

back together. Thought they were great in The Departed.

Really over the top in some ways but it was the eighties and nineties

I guess.

I'm giving it a solid 8.

Nice one, was watching the tv ads for it here in Australia, looked like Runner, Runner but with suits and replace online gambling with the stock exchange ;)

3 hours? That's a slog even in the comfort of my living room! Available from the usual suspects?
