That is not the case.  There are dangers for children everywhere.  Teach children to respect snakes, not to mess them, and leave them well alone.  Teach kids the dangers, like areas to avoid where snakes might be.  

 

If you are so paranoid about your children and dangerous animals.. what about the dogs, wasps, scorpions, snakes, bats with rabies, mosquitoes with diseases, poisonous plants, mushrooms, bacteria, viruses, other human beings etc.... better you just concrete over your entire property and put up electrified walls.... and then make the concrete safe for kids too... as they can hurt themselves on it.. so cover it with some plastic grass.... oh no.. but that might have toxic chemical in it.......  

 

Fact is the snake species concerning OP is not really dangerous at all to humans. More likely to get bitten by a snake when chasing it, trying to catch it, trying to kill it, than to just let it go on its way unmolested.  

 

And there are no longer 'plenty of places for snakes to be (or any other animal)  where there are no people around.  People are everywhere now.  Not much wilderness left.

You can eliminate the risk by capture and release them. No need to kill

And what do you suggest if your dog bails up a cobra?

Try and risk getting bitten by trying to catch it or hit it over the head with a shovel?

 

I like animals, but you're in laa laa land if you think people with no experience should

try and catch a cobra.

The absolute majority of snakes are just passing through.  Kill them and another one will be along shortly anyway.  So killing them is just a waste of time and you do put yourself in some danger by challenging one.  

 

I've seen many dangerous snakes up close and personal and they really aren't a threat, honestly.  They've got no beef with you if you cared to notice and educate yourselves. 

 

A huge python under the decking is another thing altogether and that's the time to call in a specialist.

When you've got kids and or pets at home, all bets are off IMO.

 

I try and let them go into the forrest behind us whenever possible, but once the dogs

get involved, it's pretty hard to try and separate them.

Had a dog killed by a snake already. Wouldn't eat in the evening, and dead stiff in the morning. If I can help it at all, my grand daughters will not die like that. You may not care about our family, but I do. Bye bye snake.

Er?  That quote of mine was in reply to a poster who thought Satan was a snake in the garden of Eden so we should kill all snakes.

 

I do actually like snakes.. in fact all wildlife.   I don't like to see animals needlessly and wastefully destroyed for no reason... snake, dog, or your granddaughter.  

 

I an like even less, stupid religions people who actually want vengeance on all snakes because of some adam and eve story.

That's the hail mary pass of them all.  Kill all snakes because the first woman god created, or so the story goes, was tricked by a talking snake, into eating a piece of forbidden fruit.

 

Is this where we are at, as a species, after all these millennia?  Really? 

 

Clearly, the talking snake in that particular story wasn't aggressive or venomous.   At a minimum, you should allow non-venomous snakes to live.  God would probably appreciate that kind effort.  Certainly his Son, Jesus, would give you a slap on the back and buy you a Leo for being a good bloke.

Went away for a couple of days and came back yesterday evening, this morning I see this at the side of the house.



Can only have been killed by a cat ( as we have a couple that come by and fight over who’s gonna sleep at the back of the house ).

Seems unusual that a cat would do this ( IMO ) but maybe it’s common ?

Sorry to all the snake and zoologist experts here....but many people are not rooted connoisseurs with these boys and some can plainly kill you with a single bite.

 

My appologies, but I also would tend to kill any of these fellas slithering around my garden.

 

One could also consider specific treatment that can be done around your house once a month,  that repells these chaps.

 

It's all in the laws of survival...and when it comes to survive, protecting yourself and your family, there is really no choice if you are not sure with what species you are dealing with.

There is a FaceBook page called Snakes of Pattaya, but people from different regions have posted on there, take a pic, post it and within minutes someone will advise you as to the danger or otherwise of the snake, I think that there may well be other sites relating to your neck of the woods, have a search and find out, much better than killing an innocent harmless snake eh [emoji106]

So when i see a snake i will rush indoors go onto the internet and check if its dangerous or not, trouble is as we have a large garden with lots of hiding places i will have to be extra careful if its a poisenous one when i am out there again

You obviously don't want or need any help in identifying something that may be harmless, so just do the Thai thing and kill anything you can't or won't recognise, sorry to have bothered you. I think your attitude could do with a slight adjustment.
