snoop1130 Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Deadpool 2's first reactions are in and some fans claim it's better than Avengers: Infinity War BY SAM WARNER Image: 20TH CENTURY FOX Deadpool was the unexpected superhero hit of 2016, winning almost everyone over with its insanely meta references and R-rated gloriousness. Thus, with every movie success today comes the pressure to live up to it in the inevitable sequel (and franchise) – yet it seems the Merc with a Mouth has kept it up... and then some. Yep, Deadpool fatigue is not setting in after all, as the (pre-embargoed) reactions from Deadpool 2's first screenings are raving about the new movie. Heck, one attendee even claimed it was "better than [Avengers] Infinity War". Shock. Horror. spidermike007 Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 I would see this film for $12,500. That is what it would take, to get me to sit in a seat for two hours, and watch this ridiculous drivel. Hollywood has completely lost it's way. They keep cranking out these silly cartoon movies, that are made for kids. Black Panther was one of the most ridiculous and childish movies I have ever seen. Thankfully, I walked out after 20 minutes. The original Deadpool had it's moments. It was funny. But, Hollywood does not do sequels well. And if it even resembles Avengers, God save us all. 1 1 1

It was obvious what it was going to be, and I didn't waste 80 baht on it. Re the OP, it wouldn't be hard to be better than any Avengers film, which are just bad films dressed up with huge budgets. Seems that only films about blowing things up make lotsacash these days, given that the "blockbusters" are all about blowing things up, and good dramas are no longer being made, in any significant numbers. 1 2

And at making money, it's extremely good, with records of income frequently being broken - despite the ready availability of free illegal copies of its works. In short, it's providing the public with what they want and get excited about, and so making itself rich. 1

In short, it's providing the public with what they want and get excited about, and so making itself rich. You completely missed my point. And that is, the major studios no longer focus on making quality films, that appeal to a large base. They make crappy, big cartoon type films, that appeal to a younger demographic, who are not looking to be intellectually stimulated by a movie experience. "Think sheets, T-shirts, cups, mugs, all of those types of items. Many of the studios have banked on making only these franchises instead of either mid-size or smaller fare." Big studios. Thankfully we have more independent players, and that is filling the gap of mindlessness. While the studios have walked away from the mid-size film, new players have stepped in, and some are multi-award winners. "Netflix and Amazon, they're looking for movies in that sweet spot," said Matt Pressberg, a film business reporter at The Wrap. "You know, La La Land, Manchester by the Sea, these are movies that are mid-budget movies that it doesn't always make sense for a Warner Brothers or a Disney or a Paramount to finance, but Amazon and Netflix have basically unlimited money. "They can go spend $10 million here, $15 million here, with the hopes that a couple of them may be successful, but they'll get some prestige. "And their motivation really is to drive people to subscribe to their platform, so they don't care as much if the individual film is profitable. Their motivation is different." http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-02-25/economics-of-movie-making/8292352 2
