A man suffering from depression drowned in a pond in Buri Ram's Muang district on Monday night.

Scuba divers took about 10 minutes to retrieve the body of Narin Sangna, 33, from the bed of a public pond in Ban Suan Krua village in Tambon Isaan.

Police were alerted of the incident at 8.30pm.

Narin's mother, Somrak Sangna, 57, told police that her son has been suffering from depression for years. She said he began complaining he felt nervous after his doctor recently changed his medication.

Somrak said her son drank and walked around the pond in the evening.

When he did not return home by 6pm she sought help from relatives to look for him before his sandals were found at the edge of the pond.
