UK settlement visa - timeline confusion

Featured Replies

Could anyone outline the sequence for events when applying for a UK settlement visa for a Thai spouse, been googling like mad and getting nowhere fast.

Assuming we have all the marriage and english test certificates is this the correct sequence:

1. Apply online

2. Get biometrics done in Bangkok

3. Send all supporting documents to Sheffield within 20 days of biometrics. Does this include my Thai wife's Passport? , will she be issued with some sort of document from the biometrics in Bangkok that we also need to include?

Thank you in advance.

There was a thread running on visa timelines, but I cant find it now. It goes something like this...

  • Submit visa application online. This process involves you paying for the visa followed by paying for the NHS surcharge. This has to be done before the application is complete and accepted.

  • Book appointment to submit printed application in Bangkok.

  • Attend Trendy Offices in Bangkok to hand over application and passport and biometrics will be taken.

  • Send all supporting documents to Sheffield. Your documents will be sent back to you.

  • Wait for decision to be made.

If your wife is granted the visa, she will have a vignette in her passport and will have 30 days in which to arrive in the UK. Once she arrives, collect her BRP. We did this the day after my wife arrived.

I sent all documents to Sheffield the same day that my wife had her appointment in Bangkok. We submitted the application online on 17/01/18 and a decision was made on 29/04/18. She was here on 07/05/18.

Thank you. Wasn't sure if they kept the passport in Thailand or wether my wife would need to forward it to me and then send it to Sheffield.
