NAKHON PANOM, 18 May 2018 (NNT) - Assistant to the Tourism and Sports Minister Aphichat Jeeraphan presided over the opening ceremony for the Great Mekong Bike Ride 2018 in Nakhon Panom to promote a new kind of tourism.

The cycling route covers three provinces, including Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Panom and Mukdaharn.

The eco-friendly race along Mekong River, putting the three provinces front and center as leading sports tourism destinations in Thailand’s northeastern region.

Great Mekong Bike Ride 2018 features three categories including a three-day, long-distance, triple-stage road race.

Stage one is the ‘King of Kong’ 127-kilometer tarmac stretch which snakes alongside Mekong River from Phaya Sri Satta Nakharat, Nakhon Panom, to Mukdaharn Tower. Stage two challenges entrants along the 150-kilometer ‘King of Endurance’ stage, cycling once again along the main highway with some hilly climbs. The third stage ‘King of Speed’ sees cyclists pedal down at maximum speed to Phaya Sri Satta Nakharat, Nakhon Panom.

Participants are invited to join in one, two or all three stages or choose to ride in a one-day, 10-kilometer fun race which is being held as a non-competitive event for the whole family.

Jeeze,  join the Great Mekong Bike Ride on the deadliest roads in the world.

Sorry, not this year,  I'm signing up for a Russian Roulette tourney,  It's safer.

I'll stick to my 2km daily
"bike for beer"

But wouldn't it be like a race in Europe?  No other traffic is allowed on the course before and until the cyclists have passed.
