Taxi Meter from Suvanabhumi Airport to town

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am living in Kanchanaburi, many times I took a taxi from the Suvarnabhumi Airport to the southern bus station Sai Tai Mai.

The taxi fare always was about 400 to 450 Baht plus expressway 75 Baht.

But last week when I took a taxi again from the airport something was wrong.

On the display on the taxi meter was 780 Baht when we arrived at the southern bus station.

I do not understand why, the taxi drove the correct way and there were no many cars on the road.

Was I scamed by the taxi?

Thanks for your help.

Chris

what color cab were you in?  was it a standard sedan?  What time of day and how many KM?

Hello Moontang,

the taxi was red white, it was waiting at the public taxi stand at the airport under the arrival level.. I took a number then

got this taxi. Cant see how many km, the taxi meter was little hidden.

Aren t all taxis the same in the airport taxi stand? Have they different taxi meters?

unless you were in horrific rush hour and it took two hours plus to get home; I think you got screwed...without any hugging or kissing.

Did you notice the taxi having suspiciously small wheels?

Anything must be wrong with this taxi, should I go to the tourist police?

Unless you have the taxi number from the airport slip and some evidence of the cost and the distance there would be no point.

I live in Pinklao.  2 weeks ago I paid 420 baht + extra for using toll ways.  So, 470 would be the top price.

What some drivers do is cover the meter with a cloth at the start of the journey (it already has the last persons fare on it).  At some point they will take it off.  You will only know if you were scammed if you check the KM figure on the meter.

They also have a switch to the right of the steering wheel which can make the meter go faster.

I have encountered both these scams.
