All TV members are not equally served!

I usually open the TV newsletter shortly after it lands in my inbox.

Then I click on a new thread, only to discover with some amazement that there are already 6 pages of comments!

What are all these members doing?

Are they feverishly waiting with the TV Forum page constantly open on their screen, ready to pounce on any new thread, or...is there another explanation?

 

As it happens, I have a friend in Pattaya who regularly receives the newsletter hours before me in Sisaket!

And we both use the same email service.

How come?

Many possible explanations come to mind.

One thing is sure, it is not the difference in distance because electricity doesn't really care about a few hundred kilometers.

So, the only possible explanation is that the newsletter is not sent, emailed, at the same time to each member.

But why?

Maybe TV works with an outdated system that can't manage a few hundred, or thousand, email addresses simultaneously?

Or maybe there is a secret classification of members, with the top of the crop being served first, and the bottom of the barrel getting its dose later, when the time is available?

 

Anyway, I am confident that some eminent members will soon explain the reason for this timing discrepancy...

Thanks for subscribing to the newsletter. 

 

The explanation is because the newsletter is sent out in batches of several thousand at a time. But we have around 300k newsletter subscribers so it takes a few hours to send to everyone.

 

Newsletters are sent out twice per day, around 7am and noon.

 

As for the pages of comments sometimes already posted on a topic before you have had a chance to read it, while it could be that some members spend a lot of time on Thaivisa, it is also because some members have seen the topic first from it being posted on Facebook, Twitter or Line, which happens shortly after the story is posted to the site. 

 

They may also have notifications setup so they get alerted every time a post is made to a particular forum. People in Pattaya may receive a notification when a post is made to the Pattaya News forum, for example.

Many people won't like being attacked for the things they put on TVF, and will only read it. There are some posters that apparently enjoy slagging off other posters.

I didn't consider the OP a whinge. I thought it a valid query about the timing of receipt of electronic mail. The OP stated the situation & asked for possible reasons in the delivery timing. Explanation was quickly provided.

Might be that some TV members look for negativity in all posts ?

I've noticed I usually don't get Sundays till almost 10.30am.

I particularly enjoyed Sundays due to Roosters commentary .

As my name starts with an A, I think I'll register one of my business email addresses also, and invent a new user name starting with Z.

The Op asked something that I have often wondered myself.  I get it around 4 a.m. which fits in with the 9 a.m. sending time.  Today, for in stance Brunolem started the OP 17 hours before that, and some others 16 and 15 hours ago.  But now is all explained.

There are in fact only 5 members, but they all have different login's - hence the widespread diverse opinions! ha ha.

If thaivisa.com sent out all of its emails at the same time the web server would be overloaded by users accessing thaivisa.com. As it is, after they launch the batch of emails which includes me, the web server is sometimes overloaded. To avoid this I was going to suggest that the emails be launched in batches rather than all together but now discover that they are doing this anyway. Well done thaivisa.com.

I haven't received a TV newsletter on either of my emails addresses (including junk) for about a year now, even though I'm still subscribed on both.  But I don't think the newsletter is the whole story with regards to members constantly posting early on new topics.  Some stories must appear on the website,  in some cases hours before the emails are sent out. So the prolific, hardcore members who are logged in from the moment they rise until their bed beckons are always going to be first to comment.

Thank you for this statement...whinge, query...not the same...

 

Members looking for negativity are generally in such a hurry that they can't bother reading carefully what they are about to trash...
