TomE Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Is anyone aware of any insurance companies who will deal with someone aged 63 with pre-existing conditions? 1
impulse Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 There's tons of posts in dozens of threads on the issue, many in the Health Care forum. Most are light on attractive options and heavy with questions, disclaimers and things to watch out for. Well worth a study, with the upshot being Thai based insurance companies are not as well regulated as Euro based companies and may raise your rates or drop you once they predict you'll cost more than you bring in. Their rates may be lower, but may come with some tragic disappointments once the bills come rolling in. A lot depends on what those pre-existing conditions are. In fairness, if it was easy and cheap to find coverage for pre-existing conditions, many people (most?) would wait until they needed expensive care before bothering with insurance. Which kind of defeats the concept of spreading risk based on actuarial data.
Sheryl Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 A lot depends on whether or nto these pre-exisitng conditions are, at this time, still requiring treatment. If they are not (e.g.: heart attack 5 years ago, no cardiac issues or meds now; a cancer that was fully treated X years ago with no recurrence, etc) , some insurers will cover you, though often with an initial moratorium period for those specific things. HCI offers an insurance option where from the onset you apply for moratorium rather than full medical underwriting. This leads to a policy that excludes pre-existing conditions for 2 years (5 for cardiac and cancer) and then lifts that exclusion after that time assuming the condition did nto recur in the interval. If you have a condition that is still requiring ongoing treatment, depending what is is, you might find an insurer who will issue you a policy but if it is something that puts you at increased risk, they will probably that particular condition. Some insurers issue broader exclusions than others. Group policies, such as employers sometimes provide, usually do not include exclusions. The Pattaya and CM expat clubs offer group health insurance policies, I am nto sure if those are subject to individual exclusions or not, if you live in either area you might ask.
