Fugitive US pedo to be deported

Niem Chheng

An American fugitive pedophile was arrested in Siem Reap province on Wednesday and is set to be deported to the United States next week, police said.

Siem Reap anti-human trafficking police arrested Gilbert Michael Greenwood, 63, upon receiving a request from the US Embassy in Phnom Penh.

US media reported that Greenwood was arrested in the US for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl. He was detained in 2013, but granted bail the following year and fled.

So he's had a 4 year free run in Cambodia thanks to the vagaries of the US bail system. Wonder how he was supporting himself? I would guess the reason he's targetted now is he popped up on one of the US lists of people who are downloading or providing child pornography, probably gratis of another investigation.

Hope those who paid for the bail bond of this jerk, get their money back, fast !

Why would you think someone had to pay his bail bond rather than him paying it himself?

There seem to be so many here who wonder how anyone could support himself, pay his own bail bond, etc. He is in his sixties; isn't it possible he has some assets?

Well that is possible of course but lets take a closer look.

He was in jail for maybe up to a year before he got bail. So chances of him having a regular income from work is next to Nil. Chances of any employer holding his job and paying him while in jail and charged for raping a 4 year old girl are also about the same and Nil.

He is charged with a very serious crime so chances are he has had to hire a Lawyer. He would be given one, but only if he can't afford one on his own. If he has money for a Bail Bond, then he would have to pay for the Lawyer first.

Since he was charged with a serious crime, and now out on Bail, then his Bail Bond was probably quite high also. They are not going to let him out on $100 and his promise to return. Or at least I would not think so.

He could of course owned his own house and sold that to pay for everything. But he, or somebody else, still stands to lose a lot of money here. Hope they fly 1st class back to the states and he ends up paying for that.

Not much substance in your post.

You are just stuffed with speculation and conjecture aren't you now, Mate.

Impressive.

Take a closer look at what? You have the facts, do you, or just more speculation. First, having a job and a paycheck is not having assets. Second, there is no evidence I've seen that he spent much time in jail, he was out on bail--do you have such evidence? Third, a lawyer can be provided, but may not even be necessary to get bail--again, do you have any evidence that he had a lawyer, and that the fees were more money than he had?  Fourth, bail bond fees are generally 10% of the bond. So, once again, you are assuming he had no money. That was my point. Why are so many so dumbfounded that someone may have money?
