It's easy for keyboard warriors to be critical of the police. They are trying to deal with a person who is high on Yaa Baa. Addicts can be freakishly strong and also feel no pain. Meantime, the police have a duty to restrain the addict without injuring or killing him. If they do, there will be another batch of keyboard warriors screaming police brutality.

I commend the Thai cops for their restraint and professionalism.  In the US the cops would have summarily executed the guy.

Yes, consistent hard daily training for this scenario. Pure muscle memory; however, 1/2" pvc is used for training. The clothes racks are saved for real events such as this.

Rehabilitation particularly does not work if the people like taking drugs and want to continue as soon as the treatment program finishes.  And there is plenty of rehab offered in Chonburi province to first and second time caught users and some third time caught users.  But, as soon as they are released they are home boasting that they won't get caught again as now they know what mistake they made and they are now definitely smarter than the cops.  And all their druggie friends arrive with more Ya Ba.   Free to start with, just to make sure they don't forget the habit   Well that  happens round here.  So prison doesn't work?  Well while they are there it stops them threatening to kill members of their family who can't afford to give them the money they demand with menaces to buy their drugs.   Mothers and fathers living in fear of their sons.  So to get the money they go selling drugs, which is what their "friends" wanted anyway.   And, surprise, surprise, they get caught again but this time it is selling and their mother's truck they took with menaces is still impounded over a year after the arrest.    They get five years with no rehabilitation as by now they are clearly a waste of effort and resources.   That definitely happens round here too.  But Mother may not have a truck now, but at least she can sleep at night for the first time in years.  Prison doesn't work you say?  Tell me the REAL other options.

For sure a bullet in the head would have been faster and easier but it isn't what police are supposed to do on a case like this. Their duty was to get him safely and hand him to the justice system...
