Popular Post peterb17
Have been here a while- it’s still a bit of an adventure- sometimes on your travels and exploring the region - there are some magical places - that you will always remember. For me: 1. A truly wonderful trip from Mandalay to Bagan - it did not start well as the Irrawaddy was flooded - but ended up with ten days on a beautiful boat- 15 passengers with 38 staff ! Always book low season.Bagan is stunning . 2. Another Myanmar experience - the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon - go there at sunset- then gradually at the light fades- the lights on the pagoda come on - it is covered with sheets of pure gold - it’s extraordinary and spiritual . 3 . Loie- the ghost festival - a wonderful province - the festival is beyond weird - guys covered in mud - the ghosts- weird costumes I counted about 30 tourists - and even some of those great scary bamboo rockets . Another magical experience. So any ideas - where to go next? Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Popular Post b17
Spent three months in Bhutan back in 1986 in Khaling, a village in the eastern part of the country. Along with one friend, we drove into India and purchased three computers (yes, they existed, way back then) and brought them back to Jigme Sherubling HS. Despite having power only 2-3 hrs per day, we taught the senior kids some basic programming. One day, after explaining the concept of an infinite loop in fortran, one of the students suddenly started screaming and running around the classroom. According to his calculations, he could program the mantra "Om Mani padme hum" and it would repeat one million times by the following day, guaranteeing him a place in heaven with no need to be reborn. Seeing his reaction, and the response of his classmates, was magical. in Paro, Bhutan 1986 by rob, on Flickr 5
DoctorG
Climbing the great wall of china, or seeing a snake on the next wave whilst swimming in vietnam. Many adventures all over Asia. Highs and lows all over the place.

That's something I've NEVER heard before - during my three visits to the Philippines, I found the food ATROCIOUS.

VocalNeal
In Sumatra riding from Porsea to Pekan Baru . I split the ride at Sipirok. The average speed is a bit low but on the good sections one can easily get 100 -120 kph. Slower sections avoiding the cinnamon drying on the road! That was 20 years ago. Amazingly street view has now done the whole route that I did the old fashion way! A slow bit https://goo.gl/maps/zdTAq5EcgiC2 Medium speed https://goo.gl/maps/EVDGP1L7mE82 About 120 https://goo.gl/maps/8aWYn9i4fGu I'd do it again in a heartbeat. federico
My first time in SEA. I landed in Bkk late at night then the next morning at 5am had a flight to Rangoon. What a shock. We went to Mandalay for a few days then took the boat to Bagan. An amazing trip to the past. I miss the words to express my feelings. I caught the fever of Asia at that time, never recovered since. Fairynuff
Once saw a documentary on Bohorok Orang rehab centre on Sumatra and became an ambition to see it. I did and it was amazing. It now doesn’t exist anymore and what replaced it was a mess when I went. Inle Lake in Burma......stunning beyond words. Bhutan a couple of years ago. One of my most memorable 6 days ever. Luang Prabang before it got ruined to the degree that I won’t go anymore

Rc2702
Koh libong 3 years ago this month. A week of very shoddy Internet enabled me to switch off and have a great time with my GF. Only us in the resort and the resort dog who would sleep outside our door each night at our on beach chalet. Would love to go back but I hear it's changed in terms of development so we dare not ruin our memories of the place. We chose the place by looking on a map for somewhere we had never been or heard of. Was a very carefree week, had a lovely time.
