Yes, you probably are right. It was no big deal those days to get a visa But now they are because the Visa business it is getting to be big business Authorities can see it only affects farangs to get a visa and not thai citizens. They have found another cash cow.

Let's not forget that immigration have KNOWN he is on overstay for 187 days before they do anything about it. That doesn't make them look good I think.

I hope I still have the physical capability to keep doing my address reports and renewals when I'm in my seventies.  What do expats do when they become too frail or infirm and simply can't make the trip any more?
