No,,, what's that got to do with the price off eggs  ?

Nothing. It's to do with the death penalty. The law in its majesty should not seek revenge, which is what the death penalty is in essence.

"...Uncertainty is looming over Thailand’s commitment to abolish the death penalty in light of massive public support for capital punishment..."   There is no uncertainty; they killed someon

  • Maybe you don't know it, but the death penalty can not be reversed. In a country with a good working police and justice system even 4-5% of the executed were not guilty. Killing an innocent

Umm... No uncertainty. See news last week.

It is a punishment handed out by the law and may be considered revenge/justice by the victims and their families. :whistling:

And there is very little, if any, "majesty" in the way law is practiced in the Kingdom.

Not at all. Society recognises crime exists and with fines, prison sentences and terms in maximum security mental hospitals, demands the offenders pay for what they have done / receive treatment. Is there case after case of psychopaths being unleashed once again on society? Yes. Are there cases of little scumbags causing merry hell against others? Yes. But is taking the path of least resistance and just offing them the way to go? No, I don't believe so. We are (wo)men, not dogs.

That is not to say it isn't tempting, given the horrific nature of many crimes, but should we not hold ourselves to a better ideal than mobs and pitchforks, albeit with a properly funded police and justice system?

That leaves the Kingdom out of it.

Even more reason to abolish the death penalty then, don't you think?

  But they're not about to do it or even consider it, by the sounds of it.

I was actually addressing the poster's 'dream' of a "properly funded police and justice system".

Not if they do away with a couple hundred a year,,, than the crims may start thinking,,, Will I be next ,,,,

I don't think there's much evidence of that. I seem to remember one murderer in the UK saying it made little difference since most criminals and killers in particular very rarely think they'll get caught. If you go round killing people rational thinking probably isn't your thing.

Regardless of the effectiveness of capital punishment it doesn't seem to be very Buddhist does it.

Correct but not surpising. There seems to be very little 'Buddhist' in the Kingdom. Gone the way of 'Christianity' I fear. The teachings will be distorted to suit the new preachers.

BTW - I am neither "Christian, Buddhist or Muslim".

That IS Rational thinking doing away with the BAD Crims For sure as shit they won't do it again ,,, will they?,,,
