Srivara defends his questioning of officials at Tham Luang cave

Srivara-Rangsibrahmanagul.jpg

Pol Gen Srivara Rangsibrahmanagul, the national deputy chief, has come under attacks in the social media for what is seen as an act of intimidation toward officials working to save the lives of the 12 young footballers and their coach trapped in Tham Luang Cave.

A video clip showing Pol Gen Srivara questioning two officials whether they had a permission to fly a drone and drill a hole in the cave went viral on the last few days. It was his use of language and stern manner that irked social media users who expressed sympathy with the officials on the rescue mission.

An official was trying to use a drone to survey the mountain to look for shafts through which search and rescue officials could get down into the cave when Pol Gen Srivara intervened to question whether he had received proper permission to do so.

‘Poor coordination in cave search leading to waste of time’

By The Nation

Lerpong Suansang, head of a search team of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department

A senior rescue official complained about the wastage of time caused by the lack of adequate coordination between several teams exploring shafts over Chiang Rai’s Tham Lung Cave.

Lerpong Suansang, head of a search team of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, said there were several teams searching for shafts that could offer a passage to chambers in the cave where it is believed a 13-member football team could have been trapped.

Lerpong said several shafts had been searched that they only led to a dead-end but due to lack of coordination other teams also ended up searching the same shafts, assuming them to be new discoveries.

He said there should have been better coordination so that all the rescue teams were aware of which shafts had been searched.

Drill to evacuate survivors from Tham Luang begins

Tham-Luang-1.jpg

Rescue teams have begun a simulation drill to evacuate survivors from Tham Luang cave to a district hospital nearby in Chiang Rai.

Ambulances are seen rushing patients one by one to Mae Sai district hospital, watched by an army of journalists and camermen. Authorities have prepared 3 ambulances for the drill. Helicopters are also being employed for emergency. Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn said Friday that the drill would involve officials in different fields. Each of the ambulances is manned with doctors and nurses in a drill to simulate a situation in which all the missing 13 are rescued out of the cave.

“Do not get excited, we will just simulate a situation about delivering patients to the hospital if the media and the public see many helicopters and ambulances in front of the cave,” said the governor.

CHIANG RAI, 29th June 2018 (NNT) – A state sponsored team of social workers and psychologists has been sent to the scene of the search and rescue effort for the missing teenage football team in Chiang Rai to provide guidance and counseling to the parents and guardians of the boys lost in Luang cave.

Minister of Social Development and Human Security, Gen Anantaporn Kanchanarat explained today that the counselors are to help the parents and guardians of the lost football players, cope with the stressful situation. They are also to aid rescue workers who have been dealing with the emotionally charged search for several days now. The group of counselors will however stay out of the cave so as not to affect the determined search.

In Nakhon Ratchasima, Governor Wichien Chantaranothai today led civil servants in a moment of silence and prayer devoted to the 13 young lives still being sought in Luang cave of Chiang Rai, praying for their safe return.

Director of Wat Yai Chai Mongkol School in Ayuthaya province, Jutamas Rodphai, had students and faculty members fold origami birds to express their hope and support for the 13. The birds have been assembled into the number 13 as well as in a depiction of a heart. They voiced hopeful that the young footballers will return safely, as well as encouraging the rescuers.

How long can you live without food??

About 3 weeks iirc, depending on body mass, health/fitness and access to sufficient hydration. Hunger-striker have been known to live for about 40 days but the conditions in Chiang Rai are sub-optimal.

Water is a lot less - about 3 days.

Lets hope that they find their way in quickly. Those kids must be in a desperate state by now.

, I believe the rescue efforts should continue until they are brought out. If they discontinue the search, I think great damage will be done to the government and officialdom - rightly or wrongly. But every day that passes brings that decision one day closer. Let's hope it doesn't happen.

sicking isn't it?

I see this situation would be above him, as in it should be controlled by a national organisation ie; Federal State of Emergency services.

Perhaps Pol Gen Srivara could undertake an experiment personally, to find out...
