Passport Certifying

I'm applying for my house yellow book, I need a copy of UK passport  certified.

Do I go to the British embassy or VFS on soi 13 ?

I got my yellow house with just a copy of passport so maybe things different when married and living in Wife's house.

 Pathum Thani  amphur, request I have my passport certified by the UK embassy. I guess  Kwasaki different amphurs have different rules etc...

Very true.

For me also very simple without such hassle.

You are unlucky with your district office.

Some foreigners are harassed to the bone and give up.

As Khun Benq says, different amphurs perceive the rules differently.

 

In Udon Thani their understanding was that a 'certified copy' was using an 'approved' translator (in my case a Thai/English school with a signed translation) to provide a Thai translation of my passport details page into Thai, in order that my name (in Thai) could be entered into a yellow housebook.

same here although as my visa was due for renewal the following month they got me to come back to get it after the visa was renewed, just filled in the forms with my parents names etc  plus the other info required and it was all done. From memory you have to have been living here for so many years before they do it, 5 I think but could be wrong

Yeah probably the use of the grey 90 day rule, you have to be here for a while, forget how long before I got mine.

 

One of things I get with a yellow book is a Thai ID number which in our province DLT they insert on my DL's.

 

This year at 1 year extension immigration wanted copies of yellow book for proof of address, it was the first time they did this.

Very true , happened to me !!

Got passport certified at British Embassy and translated at MFA, also translation of birth certificate at MFA , both requested by Amphur.

Was then asked to produce certified translation of Decree Nisi/Absolute ( and this was only for the yellow house book remember, not for marriage ! )

Gave up !!

To be honest, no real need for the yellow book for me, unless I can’t get a certificate of residence from immigration to renew DL ( some reports of immigration not issuing COR’s ) then I guess it’ll be another trip to Embassy [emoji20]

Getting my yellow book, one of the funny things that happened was when everyone needed was at the gov office, they got to my sweet old ma-inlaw, they asked her what day / year  she was born, she said I can't remember but I know it was in the summer time.

Reminded me of the Croc Dundee film.

Have you tried phoning any of the following:

Office Of the Ombudsman on 1676

Bureau Of Registration Administration (BORA) on 1567

 

No idea if there’s English speakers at either, so a Thai speaker would obviously be best.

I’m probably preaching to the converted here, but BORA are legally obliged to register people living in Thailand (Thais and foreigners) with a housebook, and cannot refuse.

 

I don’t know if more recently there is a requirement for MFA certified docs? I took my passport to a local registered English School and they provided the passport details page translated into Thai.

 

OK, I know this is second-hand: I read on TV in the past someone phoned the Ombudsman due to a Chonburi amphur refusing point blank to issue a yellow house book. 24 hours later he received a phone call from the amphur asking him to go and apply for it.

 

I got my wife to call BORA above after I had an initial refusal. They told her the documents I needed.

 

We also took a copy of the requirements from BORA to the amphur and made sure they saw we had the two department names and phone numbers above written down too. We thought then it would be more difficult to refuse, if they realised we knew something about the process.

 

We still had grilling from the head of house registrations as to why I wanted a housebook. She asked why (at the time) we weren’t married. I said it wasn’t a requirement for a housebook, which she begrudgingly accepted.

Worked out in the end though.

At the time I was really peeved as talking to the first lady at the Amphur she stated the docs needed and made out it was just a formality. Then when going back we met the headman and he questioned my gf as to whether I drank a lot or did drugs ( I do neither ) and insinuated that all Farang’s do .

He then asked my gf if I had been married ( if she had lied and said no maybe things would have turned out different ) she answered truthfully and he then said he needed to see a certified translation of Decree Nisi.

Although I was at the interview I might as well not have been as I understood nothing, my gf seemed almost scared of the guy and didn’t tell me anything till afterwards.

When I thought about a return visit to British Embassy for certification and then onto MFA for a translation of a document that I didn’t even possess at the time I decided that was enough stress for me !!

 

If in the future the lack of a yellow book causes me any problems or unnecessary expense then I will follow your advice and contact BORA but as it is I’m happy enough without.

 

Indeed it’s just another example of government offices/officials flaunting the rules to suit themselves and I would like to highlight that to BORA and maybe make the headman loose a little face !!, but right now am happy to forget that guy and enjoy retirement .
